i want to start sampling

what exactly do i need. can i just get some random cd player at radio and start sampling. What are the capabilities and or functions should i look for? Do i need any other extra equipment?

get a turntable and some vinyl

first you need vinyl, you can only sample records when making a beat, but others throw in stuff from tv, movie, and cartoons. But the music is from records. I suggest you check out a producer named madlib at www.stonesthrow.com , and also thes one from a group called people under the stairs at www.peopleunderthestairs.net.

go buy some of their cd's or vinyl of you got a record player. and listen to all the samples they use.

MY 2 CENT'S if you got a 1000 you can look into getting a digital out turntable
such as Stanton str880 or a Numark ttx to go digitalin to your MPC

im familar with both people under the stairs and Mad Lib. So i absoulutely need a turntable i cant filter tracks from a cd player or a cdj that basically operates in the same was as a turntable,

If it is.......you can use whatever you feel comfortable using......thaz exactly what the pioneers did....do it your way and at the end of the day you will feel better about your creations

Yeah, you can use whatever. Cds, Movies, Vinyl. I personally use records and so do alot of other people. But its definitly all up to you. Do whatever feels best.

why do you guys like vinyl more? my friend uses vinyl he says thats the only was you could sample. Does it make you feel like your more authentic or something? btw thanx for all the replies

Remember, back in the day (70's or whatever) Cd's wern't around, so you can't get alot of the music from back then on CD's. Especially not the more obscure or rare stuff.

you can sample from ANYTHING...you can put a mic up to your ass and fart, then chop it up, and filter it, and write some corny lines, and then you can be eminem...
