How do you clean an old mixing board?

I have a couple scratchy pots and my 3rd channel seems to have more hiss than the others...how would I go about cleaning these? Is there some product I could use on the contact points or just open it up and clean it? Or should I try and find someone local to do it for me? thanks

Alot of boards these days have self-lubricating pots...because thier sealed it's nigh on impossible to clean them but if you regularly sweep them back and forth from stop to stop you can keep them operational. Alot of us using midi labs rarely touch some of the knobs and or faders...simply using these knobs regularly will help your board stay in shape....It's worth it to let a professional do maintenence on your gear regularly. Channel strips can e replace fairly easily but still better to get it done by a pro. Find one who will let you watch and ask questions...then you can do the next one yourself...

get a contact cleaner with a silicon base that works best cuz it coat's and cleans the fader goto radioshack they have a good spray fairly overpriced but well woth the price it works great, i use it to clean my volumes and fader when needed,i also use it for my records makes them sound buthery

After you do what these guys said. Just get an un used paint brush to keep the dust off. Very old studio trick that is still the best solution.
