out of sync? or am I just picky?

Recroded som drum tracks from spdif(2000xl) in synced with midi to my cubase.... then I zoomed in alot and found this...

u see the 3 on the top, thats the bar start... and u see the wavefile is like milliseconds after... watsup with that? is it latency or what?

does it happen like that consistently for every beat?

if so then yeah its latency. for instance it could be the latency in the recording path.

In ableton live there are some latency settings you can f*** with until your recordings line up with everything else. Cubase must have settings too, I just don't use it anymore so i couldn't tell you.

i don know if its the latency, does latency affect recording audio? tought it was just midi notes...

maybe its the mp thats a little out of sync

MPC can adjust midi clock earlier in ms.

latency happens more so in audio recording rather than midi. But yes you can adjust midi clock on the mpc 2kXL.

how u do that?

does it sound out of sync? if so fix it, if not dont- stop worrying about what things look like...

Latency is the time your audio card needs to convert the sound from analog to digital.

and if you're monitoring through your soundcard - it actually doubles up, because it adds another conversion - from digital to analog.

Better soundcards are more capable of shorter latency times - so that you almost don't notice it.

I have a RME HDSP 9632 Card - I can use it at a setting of 3 milliseconds.

There more software stuff I use in realtime - like plugins and virtual instruments - the more I have to raise the latency time of my card.

Sequencer programs like cubase sx have full latency compensation - so they compensate for the time the conversion takes and your tracks should be synced perfect.

is it always the same delay?
try recording the same drum track a few times on different tracks and look if it's always the same amount.
cause if I do this the delay is always different....

it all sounds in sync, but maybe the mp aint 100% precise or something...


have u guys tried zooming in and looking if the hits hit at exatly the same time? mine always come out a little bit different, nothing noticable, but still... maybe its the mp like I said, people alwyas talk about that "mpc feel"

You need to make sure your sample has not a millisecond of silence at the beginning, different samples might then show different delays.

I'm gonna do this tonight maybe, get a sample that starts quick with zero silence at the beginning and then see the delay on the computer screen, then adjust the midi clock early parameter in the mpc and see what happens.

If you say that it sounds in "sync" - then why bother how the wav? files look like?

I mean it's not a film - right? So you should not be worried about how it looks - but rather how it sounds - and if it sounds right, then just don't care.

If your tracks are sounding fine, then you should be happy about it.

If the delay is random, I would blame the computer's midi interface.

I did some timing tests on a midisport 2x2 and found out there was all kinds of jitter (random variation).

how do u fixx the midi interface?
