i just won an s950 on ebay, got sa smokin deal too....once it arrives ill post pics..ive read some nice s950 tips, anyone got some more?? im so excited for a filter!

first and most important thing id say is this:

if your pads are still assigned to the General Midi MIDI NOTE NUMBER assignments, change it IMMEDIATELY to SEQUENTIAL MIDI NOTE NUMBERS starting at 35 for pad 1A SEQUENTIALLY all the way through to 99 for pad 16D(this is assuming that you have 3.10e OS installed which gives you 4 banks of pads A-D...) otherwise triggering samples on the S950 via MIDI NOTE NUMBERS(is there any other way to trigger samples?) will be a pain in the azz... SEQUENTIAL MIDI NOTE NUMBERS pad assignements is the first thing i tell anyone who just got an MPC, EVERYONE should get used to it like this from the get go, scrap that GM pad assignment crap(who really uses GM anyway?)... it makes it 1000% easier when you start working with external devices... when working internally on the MPC only, you really dont even have to knw what a MIDI NOTE NUMBER is... i still recommend this to anyone with an MPC, its better to get used to it this way from the start than to have to get used to it again later down the road...

Sign me up with Fobe, I always tell people to do that first, expecially if you are going to use the ads with external gear at all.

Some people use the GM standard, but it makes little sense in these situations.

it's in the FAQ, but Fobe if you want copy your post there again, it deserves to be posted twice. people should do it immediately.

The 60 and 950 have similar characters and compliment each other nicely in their ease of use. Definitely change your pad setup like fobe and el said it's necessary. The best tip I could give you is to experiment with everything, looping and X-fades can be real sick. Have fun.

can this setting be saved? does it keep the setting after shutdown? does the initialize function reset everything back to factory 3.10 OS settings?

what settings are saved when you turn of the unit? thanks for your help!

yeah, if your battery is good it'll save it

yea you can save the pad and midi note number assignment as global(forgot the term the 60 uses) or per program...

Or you can save params if your battery is bad and load params.

You def want a working battery tho.

I just got done putting in a new battery. Whew what a pain in the ass! I had an old non-working pc mb that I took the battery holder from. It won't be so bad next time. Full tune up, cleaned the pads and their sensors too. Now for the real fun...

yeah I posted about my battery replacement. man I was sweating bullets.

I put a holder in too. I didn;t remove the board the battery was on tho, I cut leads and soldered topside.
