I NEED HELP!!

my Zip drive began making the "click of death" sound that i've read about on here before, so i went out and bought a new zip drive, now when i put a disk into my new zip drive and try to load it onto the MPC 2000xl it says that the drive is not ready, same as if there is no disk in the zip drive. i'm running the latest o/s, and i'm starting to get frustrated!! cuz i'm not trying to loose hundreds of beats!!!! do i need to install some sort of driver for the zip into the MPC?? both zip drives are scsi 100mb i'm completely out of ideas any suggestions at all would be greatly appriciated!! thank you all in advance!

Are you talking about an internal or an external zip drive ?

yeah the settings are exactly the same... i even tried to change it to every other possible setting.... could it have something to do with the cd drive i'm running it through?? i'm running the zip to the CD drive to the MPC..

Just connect the zip drive directly to the MPC and see if that works first, it's easier to locate a scsi problem going one device at a time..

where can i pick up some chords to connect the zip directly to the MPC?? do i have to get them online or do music stores sell shit like that?? thanks a lot for your help by the way.

For a cabe to connect directly try your local computer store. Mfor the moment just make sure the terminator switch on the scsi zip is turned ON since it seems to be the last one in the chain. Mkae sure the scsi CDROM drive gas no terminator set and make sure it has a different scsi ID than the zip drive and the MPC drive. Another thin to try is to first turn on the power on the zip driven and the cdrom drive and then turn on the power on the mpc. BTW can you still read data from your cdrom drive?

well the cd drive has been trippin' lately spittin' out disks randomly, so no i guess i can't... yeah i read the manual about that termination thing, and i've been seacrhing old post on here for weeks... i'll try to find a scsi cable tomorrow, and i hope that that works, cuz i'm really gonna be upset if i loose all this stuff...

**** it might as well be that either your cdrom died on you or the scsi connector on your mpc blew.

yeah i read a few post when people said that the scsi would blow if you unplug the zip from the scsi, what di i do if it is blow?? ohh and my old zip still reads the disk it just starts clicking if i try to open up anything on the 2nd half of the disk... its a confusing situation..

It seems your old disk is dying on you but from what I hear your scsi fuse is still ok. This clicking does it happen on every disk you put in the zip drive ?

yes it does happen to every zip disk i put in... say for example i have a zip disk with 20 folders on it, it will let me access the first 10 on the disk, but as soon as i try to open the 11th-20th i hear the click of death? so if it sounds like everything is cool, it still doesnt explain why my new zip drive isn't working...

any other suggestions??? anything would help!!! thanks
