First off, yes I have read the bible, I had it drummed into me when I was younger through religious grandparents, so I'm not speaking having never been "involved" in religion. Historians have indeed proved that many of the events in the bible happened, but as in all good stories, there is no doubting that the bible exagerrated the full extent of the events, in order to make them sound more interesting, and readable. A lot of the events could probably in this modern age be explained by scientists as freaks of nature, but no proof of a higher force amongst us. The ignorance of the people thousands of years ago gave them no logical explanation to the events that they recall in the bible, and therefore I think it is very feasible that they created in their own minds a higher being to explain these occurences.
How would you explain how none of these miracles have ever happened in modern times? Surely if God was originally annoyed by the way the people of earth were living before the whole Noah's Ark story, surely he would have submitted the earth to another similar fate a number of times since?
I don't believe in God, because to me, limiting your life through belief in something that has no evidence of existing makes no sense. I'd rather live my own life, rather than be under the shadow of a book of teachings throughout my life. If you believe in it then thats cool, I can't determine how you live your life, I'm just saying that the whole religious mindset has never been something I've understood the need for.
