ASR 10 VS EPS 16 PLUS

how are they similair (besides the efx) and how are they different. do they have the same filter?

That's what I want to know too, great post. They look exactly the same to me.

Biggest differences are:

1. EPS 16+ has mono sampling. The ASR samples in stereo.

2. The ASR has the invaluable ability of saving files in .WAV format

3. The ASR has more memory also.

The filter is probably more detailed than the EPS's, but that's about it.

Looks like the ASR-10 wins. A lot more memory.

ASR can sample in mono OR stereo on either input L/R.
ASR saving in WAV, where, how? (I completely missed that class)
ASR can be maxed to 16mb, so can the EPS 16 plus.
ASR can digitally resample itself, not sure if the EPS can do this.
(Maybe someone with an EPS/EPS16 can speak up on this - I haven't played with an EPS16 in a while).
Filters, just a tad different, ASR wins out on that one.
Best filters I've ever ran into on any keyboard style workstation, sampler.

eps 16 uses ds/dd floppies asr uses hd floppies


asr supports more scsi devices



asr 10 supports effects on inputs, eps 16 needs a third party disk for this


asr 10 gets more hot, than the eps 16


if you are looking for that magic ensoniq sound, both will do just fine


if you are only using one sampler, then get asr 10
if you just want to expand your current sound , get eps 16

Saving wav from an ASR? I'd like to see how someone does that...

There's an option available whenever you save anything, you just select "computer" and voila: .WAV files.

Why you think Kanye even bothers using an ASR with an MPC...cuz both can sav in .WAV file format. No, it won't say ".WAV" anywhere, but select "computer" when you save something and that's it.

betcha didn't know the ASR and EPS have a somewhat simplified "tap tempo" feature, too? And the "smaller spaces" effect in the EPS?

I've done that, never saw wav anywhere on the disk, when looking at the files on the disk inside the ASR, or EPSDISK on the computer. I'll look again cause I'm curious now.

Now, I've done got rid of mine years ago, so I can't completely even recall exactly where the option was, because I didn't even know to use it. It was simple to get to, though. I wasn't big on computer-based recording then. When my man got a rack version of the ASR and we were building on the different features, he wondered why I didn't keep mine since I got my computer. That's when it clicked. That saving in "computer" format was .WAV format! He started re-saving my old EPS/ASR stuff and loading it up in his MPC! Blew me away that this feature was so downplayed, but it explains why this machine is still so popular.
