Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

How do I relate swing from Fruity Loops to the MPC2000xl? The swing in fruity loops is 1-100%.

There are 2 digits to change on the MPC2000xl. How do I calculate the swing on the 2000xl based on a 1-100% scale?

Thanks

whenever i'm setting the swing i rely 100% on my ears, i have no idea what you're trying to do

The swing process is a calculation based upon an algorithm specific to each sequencer, you will get slight differences in timing at each hit point based upon how each interprets the desired level of syncopation. You cannot really say 50% on fruity is the same as 75% on the MPC, or vice versa. For instance fruity has several algos, there are two different ones for triplet hi hats for instance. If you wish to match them up completely then you will need to have single hits at each point in your sequence eg a hi hat on each sixteenth and export the midi groove from fruity. You can then see exactly which tick the sixteenths lie on when you load the groove in to the mpc. I have never done it this way around, but you can export a midi groove from the MPC and align it in cubase this way using M point analysis and the tempo fit function. The MPC doesn’t have this capability (I wish it did, but you can do it manually.)

why not just do it by ear??
