When You balance your levels thats exactly what you do.if you want a sound higher (in front) you put up the level of that sound.if you want it lower ( in the back) you put down the level.simple like that!!

i think there's another way, i think it's the same technique as virtual surrond or something... dont know how it's done i just remember reading about it somewhere..

I think your talking about surrond sound. I believe Pro Tools have an app for it and I know you can do it in Nuendo. Waves might have a plug-in for it.

Yeah it's possible. It has to do with phase differences, and psychoacoustics and stuff. I know there's a few plugins available that do it, but I don't know their names. Google it.

I know this is not what you're talking about, but on a more basic level, more reverb pushes sounds further back in the mix. Dryer sounds are more up front.

You're looking for software or hardware that is capable of applying the doppler effect...Doppler effect actually refers to movement...but gear that will do it will allow you place the sound in a stationalry position as well. The EMU ESI series samplers have this feature I believe...

Really? How does that work?

I know that higher frequencies are cut the further away a sound is. But how is frequency effected by height?
