Need some help!!!

im just getting into production with an mpc... iv used it a few times and im soon starting my own set up...

i make hip hop/r and b tracks and am looking for some advice on wut thing i should buy to have a full setup

plz help

Welcome to the boards.

That's a very hard question. No one cane tell you what you need for a full setup because there are som many different setups between all of us.

We don't even know what/how you wanna work/produce.

We don't kno how much space you have in your crib.

It's alot things to consider all depending on YOU.


A FULL setup can consist of a maxed out 4k to some people to some people it may not be full.

a good place to start might be to think about whether you wanna make sample based beats, use synths or a combination of the two.

the other major issue would be whether you want to work with software, hardware or (again) a combo.

if you can answer these questions and give as much info as you poss can, i'll happily try and point you in the right direction.

other things that would good to know, what kinda budget you on? what equipment you've used before and how did you like it?

well im not worken with a budget right now... but maybe a few thousand

id like to work with a full hardware based setup, no computer software

and id like to make sample based tracks...

i havnt realy worked with much eqipment before either besides fruity loops... im new to this

in that case i'd suggest that you only buy one piece of equipment at a time.

an mpc might be a good choice cos it allows you to sample and sequence which is all you really need when your starting out. theres really no point in buying a whole load of kit when your just starting out, it can be very counter-productive. best off buying one workstation and mastering how to use it. by that time you'll have a clearer picture of whats the best setup for you and you wont have wasted any money on gear that you thought you needed at the time.

so i'd suggest getting some kind of workstation that has sequencing and sampling capabilities. they are other options than getting an mpc, but its a good one (your gonna hear that in a mpc-forum)

if you got cash left over that your sure you want to invest then look at a mixng board and some decent monitors.

there are LOADS of threads discussing the differences between the various mpc models in here, so use the search and have a read through some of them. but shop around there are other options.

DFENS and Lamp gave alot of info to start. My question is which mpc? Whichever one, check that forum and see what's workin for those cats. You're gonna see all hardware, computer based, everything. Make a plan b4 you start shellin out the dough. Homie at the gear spot will sell you the store if they see that wad of cash.

If you're sample based, the second most important (after the MPC of course), is a turntable and a mixer (or preamp). Some good monitors would be great, but not an absolute necessity, although to some they are.
