I have a 2000xl and have had it for some time and before that I had the original 2000. I am trying to figure out what files the new 2500 will read from the xl. I have read that it will read PGM, SEQ, SND and WAV files from the xl but will it read the ALL file or APS files. The ALL file is when you save all sequences and songs and the APS is when you save all programs and sounds. I am currently in the process of backing up several ZIP disk from my XL to my PC and that's hard enough because my PC won't read the ZIPs i formatted on my MPC so I had to make a seperate ZIP disk formatted on my PC then go to the MPC and Load every program, song, seq etc... to the MPC then Make sure that none of the file names are over 8 characters long, so I am renaming several files and then resave them to a folder on my ZIP formatted on my PC so I can drag them to my hard drive. What I am worred about is that I usually use more than one Program in my songs so I save an APS file instead of saving each Program seperate I also save All songs and sequences as an ALL file instead of saving each sequence. So if the 2500 doesn't read ALL files or PGM files then I have to go back and save each program seperately and each sequence seprately............. SOMBODY PLEASE TELL ME THAT IT READS ALL AND APS FILES.......PLEASE. or at least tell me I am going aoubt transferring all these files the wrong way and that there is a much easier way. Im readay to purchase the 2500 but I can't until I know It will allow me to load these songs that I have done in the XL and until I have backed them all up, which may take me about a 2 months.

Thanks in advance for your help, it is truly appreciated!

thats the same problem I'm faced with, Jahrome gave me some insight as well as reading other posts

word is you have to save single pgm files and seq (.mid) files into a folder, then transfer that to ur 2500

but no one has confirmed that they did it yet

I'm gonna be going to the Guitar Center to test it out in the next few days so I'll keep ya updated

After reading those post looks like I should just get to changing my ALL and APS files to seperate Sequence and PGM files. Maybe the OS update for the 2500 will read ALL and APS files from the 2000xl but I can't wait that long, I haven't wanted a new Toy this bad in a long, long time. Oh well back to work, if you find out anything new let a brother know.

I talked to AKAI tech support today and asked if they would be allowing the 2500 to read XL APS. and ALL. files with the next OS up date and they said that they were not sure. So I wouldn't hold my breath for that. In the time we are waiting for an updated OS to read those files we could be just making backup files of our sequences and seperate programs. I know it's alot of work but if you really want the new machine and want it to use your old tracks it's just some busy work you have to do. Just think I have disk dating back to the first 2000 and I got that when it first came out........... so you can imagine how many disk I have that I am working on as we speak trying to make sure I do everything right and put everything in it's own folder and make sure nothing is over 8 characters and all the other shit I have to do.....But oh well one day after I am done doing this busy work I will be making tracks again on my new MPC 2500 with all it's new features.
