Post your views and questions about the Akai MPC2500

And I made a rookie mistake... I hadn't saved anything for a couple of hours! I had walked across the room to get my headphones, and when I inserted the headphone plug, I noticed a static shock. I think that may have caused it. Is that possible?

Other than that, I've been happy with my 2500 so far. I've had it about a week and a half. This is my first MPC and, at first, I was a little frustrated. I felt like I was taking a step back in time compared to using Reason and Ableton Live. But, the more I use it, the more quickly I'm able to get around. I still think it has some limitations compared to those two programs, but it makes up for it in sound quality and funk. I had always read mixed reviews about the sound of newer MPCs (I mostly read up on the 1000, assuming it would be about the same as the 2500). A lot of people say, what you put in is what you get out. I disagree with that a little bit. I think with Reason's NNXT, what you put in is what you get out. The MPC adds some bass and punchiness to the sound. And it seems to be able to go louder (than Reason or Ableton) without distorting.

I've used the Chop Shop function a few times. I haven't been able to get it to automatically chop a sample very well. I still have to go in and adjust the regions manually. Which, to me, is about the same as chopping a sample manually, so that's what I've been doing most of the time.

But, overall, I love this thing. It's exactly what I was looking for... a piece of hardware that is funky (cuz of the swing), fun to use, and helps unify the sound of my music.

Thanks to everyone for posting here, I've really got some good info from this forum. Peace!

What up, Lord T. Yeah, I ride. I raced for a long time as a kid and now I mostly ride trails. What about you?

I love that movie, too. Have you seen the Rad t-shirts on Ebay? They're tight... exactly like the ones in the movie! And you can buy bootleg copies of the movie on DVD with the CD soundtrack. Peace.

Thats a trip! I cant believe that I can come to this forum and read up on my 2 favorite things in the world. Beats (Music), and BMX. I see that there are a few of us here that have some things in common other than music. I personally have not had a chance to go ride in about a year but my bikes are intact in the garage. You guys make me want to go out and hit the park! Cru, as a joke I left you a funny private message a few days ago. I thought you may not have gotten it or thought it wasnt funny. Anyway, dont feel bad about age. I'm 32 and still have a soft spot for BMX. But look at Dennis McCoy, is'nt he like 43 or something and still kickin azz? Peace!

Hell yeah it did! Man, Chupa can shread!! Taxman, yeah I got your PM... it cracked my sh** up. I was going to reply, then forgot, my bad. Lord T, do you ever ride in Denver? I used to ride out there quite a bit a few summers ago, there are some kick azz trails in Denver. Omaha sucks for BMX, there used to be some sweet trails, but the city tore them down. There is no such thing as too old to ride... but the crashes do hurt a hell of a lot more. I saw the Boom Boom Huck Jam a few months ago and DMC was still tearing it up. Alright, guys, peace. Keep makin them beats and get out there and ride!
