Could my SCSI FUSE be blown EVEN IF.......

Hello everyone. I received my MPC 2000(Midi Production Center) actually about 6 months ago, but just started messing around with it recently! I LOVE IT!!! However, am also having scsi problems with my external Iomega zip 100 drive! I have searched(and still searching). I just wanted to know if a blown scsi fuse would still allow you to load up programs?! Yes or no?! When I go to scsi #5, the screen reads "scsi not ready", but when I cursor up, it goes away and the programs are viewable. I make a quick sequence and try to save to zip and I get a "scsi not ready" error again. I cursor up and then "wait" appears. I then try to save again and "scsi read error" comes up. The machine displays "wait" again and then just freezes!! I have tried 3 different used zip drives already, and I just find it hard to believe that none of them work!! The very first one had the "click of death" so I thought that was its problem, but the second and third one are doing the same things! The guy who sold them to me, told me to try a different power cord, but still the same thing. I don't think it's the cable, but could it be? I have termination 'off' as well. This is driving me absolutely crazy!! My OS version is 1.72!! If my scsi fuse was blown, would I still be able to load programs from the zip?? If my scsi fuse is not blown i will just continue to "trial and error" the thing. Does anyone think my scsi fuse could be blown? Thanks in advance.....peace

you can say that again. what kind of probs are you having? I just got off the phone with the guy that sold me mine and he said it sounds like a formatting issue. I don't have my MPC in front of me, because i am at work, but i will try that(again) as soon as I get home. Perhaps, I am not understanding, but are you suppose to format the zip drive and the zip disk in it? I thought when you format the zip disk you were also formatting the drive! Do you think that could be my problem? Anyone?

ok this is what I got from some people...

some have had to go into either their computer or mpc and format the disks they were using before it works. I had never had that problem when i first got my drive. i didnt have to format my disks and they worked fine. so that MAY be a problem your having.

in the past i've had SCSI READ ERROR messages, WAIT.......... messages, etc.. A few different error messages. but just recently my drive seemed to be corrupting the disks that I put in it. all my disks used to work. then one day in the middle of a beat, my disk stopped working. it started giving me the READ ERROR message. so i would try a new disk and it kept telling me the same thing.

I have two zip drives. one scsi drive for the mpc and one USB drive for the computer. i tried using the disks in both drives and they didnt work on either. but just 5 minutes earlier, they were working fine. the disks and/or drives are still giving me errors to this day. i never figured out what the problem was. Man I think those zip drives eventually just give up on you. foreal man.

someone recommended changing over to a Card Reader which ill probably do early next year. im through with that iomega crap.

I know, i should have patience and faith, but it has been going on 3 weeks now!! And I still can't get this zip to work!!! This seemingly small, yet big issue, is driving me bananas!!!! I don't wanna give up on my MPC!!! Fuuuuuuuuukkkkkkkkkkk...... sorry. just had to vent...i am losing kid!! peace

naw dont ever get rid of your mpc because of a storage problem!!

just find another way to save your stuff. harddrive, card reader, etc...

fa sho smoove..thanks for the encouragement... i have an MPC 2000 classic..... can I hook a card reader up to that? I don't think i would want a hard drive because that would eventually get full. Are the card readers the way to go if your scsi zip drive is phucked up?!! I am so hating this...i am going to have a lot of down time during the thanksgiving holiday and was looking forward to bangin out some beats..but what's the use if I won't be able to save them!!! I guess i could always go the floppy route.

this is real funny, hubert, because im going through the same exact problem as you. its crazy because this just happened to me, too!

i actually made two beats last night without being able to save. i ended up recording what I had but not saving the sequences or the programs. i feel bad doin that but i gotta keep makin music i cant stop.

from what I have read and from what I understand, you can connect an scsi card reader to the 2000. it HAS to be an external drive since the 2000 dosnt have an internal scsi port.

that gives you a list of compatible card readers for mpc's. it also gives more info on them in general. it helped me out. like i said, ill be switching to one soon. hopefully by next year since i dont really have the funds to pay for a new drive right now.

yea you could go the floppy route, but you can only save but so much stuff on floppies. you definately wont be able to save your .pgm files on a floppy! those are huge!

yo! thanks for the link.....mad helpful my dawg!! It's just so frustrating reading threads on how other MPC'ers have a zip drive hooked up to their MPC and have no problems. Whereas me, on the other hand, got 3 zip drives and none of those sh!ts seem to be working properly! I damn sure hope it's not my scsi fuse. I hooked up a cd-rom with scsi id#7 and the MPC recognizes it with no problem!! No errors whatsoever! So i'm thinking it is not the scsi fuse!! But hell, i'm a friggin newbie, so I don't EVEN know!! I will continue to play with it and see what happens. If anything changes, i'll let you know man. Thanks again for all the help and info!! I really do appreciate it!! I'm about to leave work now, so I prolly won't be back on this forum until Monday(my internet connection at home is dial-up...too slow)!! Thanks again smoove! peace

well to be honest, i havent had any huge problems with it until recently. now i cant do anything with the damn drive. yea if you find out anything let me know! i dont wanna get rid of my drive, but i will if I need to.

not a problem though. keep me posted. oh, and i have dialup at home too lol. that sucks too
