crashes/resets itself

I wnt through the amnula tuday and tried out all functions.
Durung this the Mpc-2500 reset itself 2 times - without reason.

Once after timeshifting a sample - it started playing all samples instead of one - and the rebooted to the internal sounds - so i lost what i did.

And just now - when i hit a pad to change the menue- same thing - reboot.

I use the original 128mb akai memory + the recomended 40gig toshiba drive...
One more thing - the goto function doesn´t work as described in the manual - is this a bug?

So do i have to return my mpc? - or is it a software problem?

To verify if this is a 'bug' in the OS, you will have to give details (step by step) so everyone else can try to duplicate the problems you are having.

As far as the Go-to function...it doesn't work as stated in the manual.

oh - i can´t really give a step by step description - cause going through the manual i do basicly everything...
Does the mpc have an autodiagnostic mode - so i can ruel out hardware malfunction?

You can't expect anyone to help you or verify if it is an isolated problem with your MPC. If you can't reproduce it, if makes no sense in worrying about it. No MPC has a diagnostic mode. You can't return the MPC for warranty services if you can't pinpoint the problem. If you do, they will most likely accept it, tell you there is nothing wrong with it, and send it right back to you.

i understand what you mean, but it could have been that this is common (crahses 2 times a day) with this OS 1.0 - then i would´nt have been worried so much - now i wonder maybe there is a hardware (maybe ram) problem.

The ipod has a diagnostic mode - so why should an mpc not have one?
And who remembers all the steps they did b4 a crash/restart?

The MPC 2500 is not an ipod

Anyway, how much samples (MBs) was in memory when your problem occured?

it´s not ? true itsto big to be an ipod
but it is just as sexy as one...

well i was doing some sampling when it happened the second time (i tried to timestretch the just sapled) - i think i ued about 20-25 % of the 128mb.

Offtopic: do you think there will be a way that the mpc handels more than 128mb in the future - a bigger chip and softwareupdate?

I won't even go there guessing about additional memory.


As far as your problem..the only way to solve future problems is remember or write down the things you were doing before it crashed on you. And attempt to reproduce these errors. That way, the programmers at Akai can look into fixing the problems in a future OS update.

I do have a problem that happens every once in ahwile when I connect my MPC up to the computer via USB and startup my PC. This causes my MPC to freeze up sometimes and I can't even read what the LCD displays.

What was the size of the sample you tried to timestretch?

If you record a really long sample (over one minute) and attempt some of the editing features...some can cause the MPC to crash. I can re-produce this 'bug' every time.

yes it was a long passage - i was trying to timesteech a vocal part that i improvized over a track.
I there a a post that collects the known bugs?
like the one with the goto function - wich is not there - like described in the manual...

Both of these 'bugs' have been reported to Akai over 1 month ago.

ok - as long a someone tells them its good....
i´d like to suggest them to add an autosave feature - wich saves your wor every half hour or so...
