I have run out of possible solutions to my problem. I have given up. I find that my MPC 2500 doesn't play nicely with the 2500

When I record a sequence using the Proteus 2000 (most current OS loaded) the MPC 2500 doesn't play back the notes correctly. The MPC 2500 seems to freak up the duration of recorded notes. When I go to Step Edit and adjust the duration of the notes, they still play back incorrectly no matter what I change the duration of the notes. I did this same test with my other sound modules, and I have no problems. I was just going to blame it on the Proteus 2000. But than, I connected the Proteus to my Software Sequencer, Nuendo 3. Recording and playback of Proteus MIDI tracks worked perfectly :?:

I just can't call it.

Any luck with that situation? Still going nuts on the proteus?

for me it work A+ . did you turn the proteus midi mode to multi ?

Yeah...the Proteus 2000 is still going ape shit with the MPC 2500. The Proteus MIDI Mode is set to MULTI but this doesn't seem like the culprit, because if I connect to Proteus to my software sequencer, it records/plays back perfectly. This is very strange since I don't have any problems with the other synths I own.

:D

Found my problem. The problem was in the Proteus 2000s "MIDI SYSEX PACKET DELAY" settings. My settings were 300 milliseconds. I turned it to 0 milliseconds and it fixed my problem.

The Proteus's user manual states "Sometimes errors occur if the computer or sequencer to which you are
sending MIDI SysEx data is faster or slower than the Proteus 2000. The
MIDI SysEx Packet Delay command lets you specify the amount of delay
between MIDI SysEx packets so the input buffer of your computer does not
overflow, causing an error. The value range is from 0 through 8000 milliseconds.
A delay value of zero allows full speed MIDI transfer. If you are
experiencing data transmission errors, try increasing the delay value until
the problem disappears."

The MPC 2500 will now work perfectly with the Proteus 2000 :P

is your software sequencer starting at the same time as the mpc? it could be that your software is playing notes to the proteus at the same time. also, do you have another sequencer device that may be playing notes that are getting routed to the proteus? either directly through your midi chain or through soft-thru on the mpc? is your mpc connected directly to your proteus with nothing else in the midi chain? if not, try configuring it so that nothing else could be involved in any way. mpc->proteus and nothing else.

One of the first things I did was unplug all MIDI devices from my MPC and Protues. I only have the MIDI OUT of the MPC to the MIDI IN of the Proteus. I get the same results no matter which MPC MIDI OUT that I use or which MIDI IN of the Proteus I use.

There is no problem when I connect the MIDI OUT of my computer to the MIDI IN of the Proteus and use Nuendo as a sequencer.

I used this Proteus with an MPC 3000 and XL, and have never had this issue.

strange. so, it's a duration issue, right? a few more questions.

1. does this happen with multiple patches on the proteus or just the one?
2. how are you recording the midi seq? from a keyboard or from the pads?
3. are you using a sustain pedal at all?

if you want to send me the sequence i'll try and play around with it and my gear and see if i can figure anything out.

This happens with all the patches in the Proteus. Its doesn't impact percussion sounds as much.

I have tried recording sequences with just the MPCs pads and also a MIDI keyboard..same results.

I am not using a sustain pedal.

I kept it very simple for my tests. I record a 2 bar loop with just 2 notes. When the Proteus is connected, editing the duration of the notes has no effect. Connecting my other synths, using the same sequence, everything works perfectly.

Toss the proteus and get a jv 2080

Naw bra. I would never toss the Proteus to get a JV-2080...especially since I have a Fantom and an XV-5080 in the arsenal.

But I may be getting closer to the problem. So far, the Fantom XR and the Motif ES Rack perform as expected. In addition to problems with the Proteus, I have the same issue with the XV-5080 :( Both of these two synths have worked flawless with the MPC 3000 and 2K/2KXL for years as well as with software sequencers.
