Numark PT 01 vs. Vestax Handy Trax

Which has the best sound quality (the line out RCA jacks - for sampling)? Which is best, overall?

i have a pt-01 and i use it for sampling sometimes, but i also got a 1210 with decent shure cartrige and it sounds a lot better. the pt-01 will do, but the stylus it comes with is pretty trashy. dont expect to be blown away by it. if want a portable player that you dont have to ground then the pt-01 is a good buy, but otherwise you might do better buying the cheapest turntable you can find and investing the rest of your money in a decent stylus for it.

it plays 78s to which is handy, so its a good buy as far as functionality is concerned.

the vestax has better sound than the numark. but i wouldnt necessarily recommend it for sampling.

I disagree...I've owned both and feel the Numark is the better of the two. However, both are not made for professional use. I sample from them...but I'd say most real producers who get paid do not.

The Vestax is the only table i've owned to date but i like it.As far as which is better..i guess either would do.I mean why not, if you just need something to sample from with line in and outs,cop either.They're both cheap and portable.But once you get into d.j'in and scratchin' you'll have to invest in some nice tables but untill then i wouldn't sweat it.Go with what works.

okey thanks but i already own two 1200's and a tascam xs-8 dj mixer since i'm a dj. will i be better off sampling with that? wouldn't the 1200 give a crappy sound since it is a dj turntable with direct drive?

your best off using your 1210s. maybe you could even invest that money in a nice stylus that you use just for sampling. use the ones you have already when you djing/mixing.

you wont get a better sound out of the a either numark or vestax portable.

I wouldnt use it for sampling. its made to go record hunting and its very cheap so my guess is that the sound is pretty poor.. I havent heard them yet ... ... but get something more expensive for sampling as it is the source of your sound
Preferably an SL1200 with an Orthofon Concorde for maximum quality in sound Do not scratch with the silver Concordes as they ruined all of my scratch records The red Concordes are made for scratching but they´re a bit more expensive

But I already also have an old Akai hifi turntable (got it on a garagesale - works excellent) with an old hifi pickup (the one that came with), and a NAD PP2 phono preamp (pretty new, costs something around 100 $ here in Norway, probably a little less in the US). What do you guys think will give the best sampling quality, the old Akai turntable+NAD PP2, the 1200 (with ortocon concorde DJ S pickups - the blue ones) +Tascam XS-8 dj mixer, or with the Numark PT 01 (with internal phono preamp)? without a doubt, the 1200 will give you the best sound. i dont know bout the tascam but my US428 sounded good
