I had a similar problem when I had my MPC replaced. The factory default sounds contained alot of artifacts. So I formatted the card in the MPC and downloaded the factory presets again, transferred them back on to the card, and loaded them back into the MPC. All the presets loaded up and played perfectly. Sometimes the factory data on the card that comes with the MPC can be corrupted for whatever reason, but the card works fine. If you own an MPC1000, you can find the factory data on Akai's website. Here's a direct link... http://www.akaipro.com/software/OS/MPC1000/factory_data.zip.

yeah that happened to me. i did a factory reset to the unit and that didnt help. then i updated the os again and it still didnt help. so i had to call akai and have them repair the unit, since it was under warranty. they same day they received it, i got a call from customer service telling me that they cant fix it and it needs to be replaced or wait several weeks until they can get the parts from japan. i was also lied to at first when they told me that i'd get a new replacement. the head of customer service called me to tell me that they can only replace it with a b-stock unit that's not in the condition of typical b-stock units. well, the dude lied. i filed a complaint with the bbb in rhode island and even sent them pictures. i sent akai pictures as well and rob ray still lied through his teeth, telling me that he couldnt see the obvious blemishes. the r.i. bbb was no help at all. i spent several weeks with them trying to resolve this, and all they could do is tell me that i can bring it to small claims court. that's a waste, considering i live in new york and the cost of travel, loss of money from taking off from my job wouldnt be worth the hassle. so beware of what you're getting yourself into with akai. their customer service is the worst i've ever had to deal with. after i buy a black kit for the 1k housing (which i'm sure is cheaper than going to court) and buying the hdm-10, i will never again spend any of my hard earned money in a company that has the shadiest customer service. if you need any further details, send me a pm.

good luck bro, and stay on top of them. btw, the warranty doesnt state anything about replacing it with a b-stock replacement, no matter what bullsh!t lies they may tell you.
