it depends on the stylus more than it does the turntable. spend your money on a decent stylus if anything.

belt-drive or direct-drive matters very little for sampling. but direct-drive are generally better and more reliable.

which player to use? which ever you feel best integrates into your studio...

if its easier for you to have an output from your dj mixer use that, if its easier for you to do it through your amp then use the amp. if there is a noticable difference in sound quality between the two, you the one that sounds better.

Yeah I have Shure M44-7 also (I have a pair of Ortofon Concorde DJ S, Shure M44-7 and Stanton 500 AL 2), but isn't that more of a turntablist pickup? I think the M44-7 gives a lot thinner sound with less bass than the Ortofon... Or maybe it's just me. But shouldn't I get a hifi pickup type of thing? And does anybody know if any Ortofon stylus fits a Ortofon DJ S pickup (all of them are the same shape, but I don't know, maybe there is a audible difference in the pickup body itself...)?

ortofon's have a better sound.....

44-7s track better under duress (ie cutting)

plus the orto's are hard wired with contacts being internal, 44-7s more suceptible (sp?) to wear on the contacts from cart to headshell

Okey I took a blind test today. I sampled the same part with both the Akai and the 1200. The 1200 sounded more open, clear and crisp, but the Akai had "more" in the mid range. But I think I'll sample from the 1200's from now on. But does anybody know if all of the Ortofon styluses fits any Ortofon Concorde pickup (they all have the same shape, but it might be som inner/audible differences between the pickups)? In that case, I could buy a more "hifi-like" stylus from Ortofon and just put it on my pickup when I sample. Does anybody know this? Thnx
