Buy a MPC60 only to prog drums?

I am used to make my beats with software, and I like the workflow of FL Studio a lot. But I feel like buying a MPC60 only for programming drums, and probably to use it as a filter for samples? Sequencing and the producing of the beat itself will be done on the PC.

Is it a silly thing to do, to buy a MPC60 only for this purpose?

Well, I have never tried a 60 before, but I have owned a MPC1000. But is it worth it, to spend all that money only to prog drums and to use as a filter for samples (to get more gritty sound)?

No, but just use the MPC60 itself as a filter? (since it's 12 bit) Or will the s900/s950 sound just as good?

You'll probably be better off getting an s900 or s950 unless you plan on using the pads and sequencer of the 60. It would be a lot cheaper.

Yeah, I think you'd be better off just getting a good midi controller like a Trigger Finger or an MPD16.

Then do like Spectre said and get an s900 or an s950 to "filter" your samples and get that 60 sound (whatever that is). Those samplers would be better choices than getting the 60 because they're WAY cheaper and actually have low pass filters.

If you're not using the 60 for sequencing then you'd definitely be wasting your time getting one. That's one of its biggest strengths.

But to answer your question, it would be silly to get a 60 just for those purposes. Save your money and get what you truly need.

Okey, thanks for help, maybe I'll buy a MPC2000xl instead, and have that as a workstation. But when I'm at it, does anybody know of any good plugins (vst/vsti or dx/dxi) that simulates the gritty sound of a MPC60/SP1200/S950/ASR-10/whatever? I am fully aware that it will never be 100 %, but just something that's similar.. Or maybe I need a combination of several plugins?

use the 60 to seq. and never look back.

if you're just using it for drums you could get a SP 12 Turbo. it's first couple tracks have a more distinguishable/gritty 12-bit sound.

yeah - just drums = sp12turbo or 1200.

Or he can save money by going with an Emax I for that gritty SP sound. Adjustable sample rate and filter. Can't go wrong. Way more control than with those drum machines.

Remember guys, he said he uses the computer to sequence and only needs something to "filter" his sounds. SP12 Turbo's and SP1200's (overpriced) are much too much to spend for what he wants to do.

emax is probably the best thing if you dont wanna use a 950.
