Roopesh (you a uk man to)

Since i put the new OS on it didn't get a crash.

I had the 1000 and 2000 set up last night next to each other and the 1000 really does sound so much better, feels tighter aswell.

So from some of your other messages you program drumz for Rishi Rich?

Did you do the comparison using the exact same samples on each machine?

Did you compare with the 1000's master compressor/eq turned OFF??

Also, make sure that you're listening to each at the EXACT same volume by checking VU meters on your mixer or whatever. If one is slightly louder it will sound "better."

I just want to hear a FAIR comparison.

yeah ime from the UK as well...

nice to hear that your MPC 1000 problems are solved...keep me in touch as i am about to buy one anyday now.

yeah i programme drums for Rishi Rich.

he does stuff himself as well.

we were basically old collge freinds, we then studied music together.

he writes well, and i love the drums.

but ime a bit of a Fruityloops fanatic. then import into logic audio plat 6 on g4 mac.

have tons of gear like Korg Tritons, Emu Proteus 2000, Roland XV 5050, Exs24 sampler, recycle, stylus, evp88 rhodes, triton keyboards, etc.

when i use fruity, i have like 32 drum tracks running with sh*t load of drum samples, some layered, some short decayed, some on swing, some left straight, some parts panned, some notes shifted forward, etc, etc.

its cool.

Rishi Rich owns his own 2000xl, but it hardly works, as its had champagne all over it, from one of his recent videos for the UK Asian charts. it was filmed with loads of girls and a few guys all in the studio, and during the launch celebration, the champagne went all over his mixing desk and mpc 2000xl, few others.

so i now want my own MPC, but the 1000 is going to be it.

i dont care if people think the 3000's better or the 4000's better.

at the end of the day i can make hits with Fruity beats (i gladly admit), and thats rated as a really shite £79 program.

the 1000 will alow me to expand what i already do and know, but with the hardware feel.

as for what sounds better, you know how the uk works, all our chart tunes are not that phat sounding, yet they are clinical, which not in a bad way...but the US lacks.

thats why Timbaland wants to work with Coldplay, and Jlo wants to work with Elton John, etc.

anyways Macman, let me know how the 1000's going...you could be a big help.

give me up to date breakdowns please.

cheers.

"timing is tighter" and "tighter on drums". this is just speculation and inseperable from placebo effect.

shadow is right about production cycles. manufacturers arent just tweaking OS... while any serious manufacturing overhaul costs too many millions to consider, they are constantly refining and tweaking the process. ive learnt this first hand with my involvement in the manufacture of a midi controller.

and this IS akai guys.... of course the first few OS's are going to be utter crap. AKAI is like Native Instruments.... they release early. bug-fixing costs money and every day you sit on a product you are losing more $ and giving your competition more time to catch up.

be patient and have faith.

1000 and 2000 are different.

they both have ups and downs.

i would cop a 1000 anyday.

the timing is tighter on the 1000 and i have heard this for my self.

i also had a another friend listening in and he also noted that the 1000 was tighter for drums.

the 2000 / XL is only gonna get cheaper because it was no UNIQUE model.

the Legenday model was and still is the 3000.

Its like Pioneer CD Decks - they have the 1000's and also the 800's.

the 1000 is the known one, the deck that made it!!!

thats why the 800 model is getting cheaper and cheaper.

you see...ime just waiting for a 1000 thats 90% decent, and ime sold.

its small and its nice for the guy who already has a dope DAW setup, but just needs a nice drum machine, without thinking its a cash machine.

Crap.... Crap.... Crap.... and More Crap..... The timing will be exactly the freakin' same... The OS is based on the 2000xl and has the exact same ppq resolution... Perhaps its the drumsounds you got gated or the efx or something.... I don't buy that this is tighter than that crap for a second..... I don't care if Its better or Not.... My Freekn' 2000 is been arround long enough as a tried an tested piece of gear... So I copped one.... Its like getting a Brand New P4 when they first came out....forget it ....you will have freakn' problems... Many Peeps still use the old sh1t 'it aint the same as the new sh1t but it 'aint supposed to be.... I guarantee I could make a better tune than some one with a MPC 60 or MPC 3000 with a Crap MC303 and a Akai s2000 and a boss distortion pedal.... if I spent enough time on the drum samples and my freakn' sequence it would crap all over your sh1tty little MPC1000 .

Peace,

You are coming across as an egotistical idiot, Roopesh. Surely this isn't the case, right big guy?

"The timing will be exactly the freakin' same."

There may be some subtle differences but not anything audible. Remember that 96 ppqn is designed so that slight timing differences cannot be picked up by the human ear.

Even though the OS is based on earlier machines, the hardware in the MPC1000 is significantly different. The MPC1000 uses a SH3 processor which is the same as used in handheld devices that run Windows CE and is not the same as the MPC3000, MPC2000, MPC2000XL. Even the main bus speed is different, which can mean a difference in the way the machine operates, but not to any extent that one can hear.

Since I am famous for my double-blind testing methods, I will soon post results once completed and fully analyzed.

If I was gonna produce for some one... which I don't... I write songs for my own music... then I get up on stage with a drummer and I perform them myself...

But if I was, and I wanted to do a professional job... I wouldn't use any kind of MPC... Its great as a ideas box... But if the music you do needs to be tight... like dance music for instance.... where the tempo is high and hitting the note on the beat is crucial... I would print the data into protools and do all the beats and everything purely in audio because you are gonna wan't it to be Dead on, and I mean dead on down to the hundreth of a millisecond...

Now as far as I understand if you are producing a HIP-HOP tune, of which I have done a few... You generally don't quantise if you want a slick beat, you spend more time moving your hits around and programming the fine fine pushes and pulls of the rythmn, and getting it to sound less mechanical and more loose and grooving and sounding a bit more like James Brown' or a wicked Kat on a Jazz kit if you know what I mean. So in that sense a TIGHT MPC might not necessarily be what you want and a bit of percieved occasional drift away from the beat may actually be a good thing...

Perhaps it is the Bus speed that makes it tighter...perhaps it is able to deliver the sample to the outs faster than a MPC2000 or whatever. However I bet the Bus speed and quality of imputs and outputs are better on my P4 with a 400mhz bus.... And if you have a Wicked DAW why would you wan't a MPC if your worried about tight beats. Do it in your Freakn' computer!!! Oh, cause you like the Pads!!! I see if its the Pads' then you will keep the 2000xl if you have one or the 3000 or 60 or whatever it is that you have... But, you wan't a 1000 I hear you say.... Yes, the USB and Efx could be handy when bringin Ideas' and showing them at a studio session or something... But, to just get one 'cause its tighter... I don't really see the point.....

Can I ask you a question? maybe two? What is your purpose in this forum? Do you work for the big software three? I havent made a hit yet, don't care if I do. But an Mpc deserves the same amout of respect as any other professional equipment that us musicans make a living off of. You tell the top ten biggest hip hop producers in the four corners of the us the same sh!t you tell us? Computers are the future, But there will always be a place for hardware.
