Why MPC60 ?

I hope you all don't find this too newbie and annoying....

What is it that has people raving about the MPC60? I'm guessing that like the emu sp gizmos it's around the following:

- lo bit rate giving hard sound
- reasonably coarse sequencer giving a certain swing
- hands-on appeal

it's just that i have a number of lovely old drum machines and percussive sound sources and would like the pads so i can programme by hand.

i am not a user of soft samplers really and would like to know what your feelings are of the more up to date MPCs, do I lose all the grittiness and swing? or do they just have more bells and whilstles?

i don't think ease of use will be a problem as i have lots of experience with samplers (emu, akai, roland).

Simplicity, dedicated buttons, use of creativity, armrest, and the others you named. Get on one and you just wanna get down. The 60 is just fun to use... I have a 1000 and ASR10. I get bored flippin through screens to accomplish something i can easily do on the 60. Although i love my ASR, Its more of a complex sampler (the filters are dope as hell, untouchable even). If you dig computer based production the 60 is most likely not for you. Shit, I just like lookin at the **** machine.

Oh and the pads... i just cant bang shit out on the 1000 like the 60. But the new OS comin for the 1000 is something to wait for. We'll see what happens

seems like you already answered your question. what more do you need from a drum machine/sequencer?

i'm just moving house and ebaying all my unused stuff as i pack, when my pay pal a/c is full enough, i think i'll treat myself....
