So I was recording a project from the MPC to computer to mix down using the stereo outs, one track at a time (hihats, kick drums, snares, bass, samples etc). You'll know the procedure if you work this way - this can take a very long time depending on number of tracks / sequences used, and can be a pain. I usually have more than 6 tracks, sometimes with stereo effects / panning, so tracking the 6 mono outputs into Cubase or similar program wouldn't be ideal for me.

Anyway, this made me think of something that could be really useful, maybe implemented into a new operating system (v2.0?)

It would be great to have a feature that automatically exports a wave file of each seperate track in a sequence, which can then be transferred to the computer for mixdowns. Each track could be saved as a seperate wave file in a folder on the memory card. So all your seperate drums and samples and whatever would be there as a series of loops ready to transfer to computer drop into your software, to arrange and fine-tune.

This would save hours and hours taken up individually recording each track, when you could be actually doing something with your life, and increase workflow.

Who's with me? I think this is a reasonable request - everyone loves the creative part of making a beat (or they should!), banging on the pads, but just think how many years of your life are used up tracking out beats!

you could actually do that. just arrange your song with all your sequences and everything then mute each track and then resample from the main outs. that would create the wav file that you're looking for. then just transfer the wav file to your computer.

a MPC1000 'program' would be ideal. a pc/mac-based program that can interpret your sequences, and songs, programs. then you just export your beats to your mixing program of choice. all at once, no recording necessary.

now that would be dope. and i guess it would work for the 2500, and 4000 too.

this would be just awesome...

wow.

kind of a grid editor, one could say, with all sequence material right there on screen - with a function like in acid "render each track as different file. in this case, you'd bypass completely an AD converter. it'd be like tracking each one out via spdif.

quite honestly, this sounds like an extremely powerful potential extension/companion software to bluebox. after all, if we can read pgms, why can't we read everything else?

...
i'd pay a 1+ hundred dollars for it.

That comes down to asking them to completely implement the entire mpc OS as a pc software- I think that would be a big project.

For instance, all the filter dsp code, all the timing, every thing else.

sure its possible but personally id rather they spent all that effort just making better machines.

That's just me though, i guess a similar concept on the nord modular series and the novation v-station series has done well for those companies. So if that's what the customers want...

forget akai working on it, i'd rather see wax do it. i'd rather pay him for it than akai, too

i like that idea, Fruity loops has that ability, thats one cool thing about it

Thanks sparq, but that's not quite what I meant.

My idea was so that you don't have to actually resample / record anything, you just choose select the new 'track render' option, and end up with a set of wave files ready to transfer to computer. This could be either a set of loops for each track in your sequences, or each track in a fully arranged song.

I'm sure that Akai could implement this, I mean they are about to unleash features in OS2.0 that most people never expected of them - and this function would save SERIOUS amounts of time, and help shift more units.

I also like kingquota's idea of the MPC computer program. Although I'm guessing it'd be easier for Alai to do everything inside the box.

then the mpc, would truly be a PC/hardware based machine. you can interact with intuition and track things on the pc. all with ease.

i'd pay 100$ there too. as a matter of fact, i bet alot of people would. the time it would save alone, would pay for itself. in studios, in trials, it change of mind (and re-tracking)...

theres no reason they they cant do it, its quite possible...

DID YOU HEAR THAT AKAI?

no joke that would be incredibly cool, for stuff you don't need to use external effects on...

man, i really wish they'd come through with something like that, that'd make my day

I hope someone reads this and takes note!

This would top any other additional feature

Emulation of the mpc is some thing i dreamed of for a long time. And yes I know about the FPC and other b*llsh*t attempts that don't come close. I'm thinking a 800x600 screen picture an mpc model with switchable modes. No extra software features. Okay maybe grid editing. just use an mpd 16 and an f key so that the buttons on the mpd can double as note repeat and other functions. if the midi or timing isn't rock solid, just make a pci or cardbus card with as much of the processing or componets from an mpc for stabilty and less cpu load. make it rewire compatible and let be registered as a midi device, but not a vst. Just think of your laptop thinking it is an mpc model and then you can load v-stack or reason and sequence it and all your external modules and keyboards without the complexity of the big three sequencers.
