table hisses even when the arms not down on the record

when I go to record samples to my computer it adds even more hiss on top of the sample and I can't get it out using noise reduction.

Anyone know how to get my table to stop making that hiss?

What type of table?
Is it grounded?

i have the same problem!! as soon as I connect the output to my mixer, here comes the noise!

its terrible. can someone please explain to me what grounded means??

There's that wire that comes off the side of the table that needs to be touching metal.Now,that might not necessarily be the problem.Could be a bad preamp,could be you're usin' unbalanced when you need balanced cables.I've never had this problem because i use the Vestax.It gets the job done because i don't cut or anything on it.But when i take that step,i'll def get some nice tables.

It's the outputs of your mixer and the ADs of your soundcard. I presume you both have dj mixers such as vestax etc.
They are not designed for professional recording. Every piece of analog gear in the world will produce noise it's just a matter of how much.
The input of your soundcard will also produce noise, again a matter of how much.
Unfortunately, it's usually the more expensive products that have the lowest noise floors.
The best way to lessen the noise is find out which (mixer or input) is making the most noise and use the other to increase the gain.
As you increase the gain of the singal in either, you increase the noise also.

dont increase, you need to decrease the volumes thats the reason why you might be gettin that hiss you got your monitor too loudand everything else set your gear to the marks at 7 you shouldnt get any noise if you follow that.

also make sure your TT is siting on a flat and grounded surface this will def, add hiss and hum(no homoS)
THEN MAKE SURE THAT BLACK WIRE IS CONNECTED TO THE LITTLE SCREW ON YOUR MIXER, oh yeah keep your deck(TURNTABLE) away from your speakers too cuz adds that noise aswell

I was just about to make a post about this. I was wondering if my records could be really dirty or something like that because it does it real bad on some records and normal on others, but it could be garbage wires too so I don't know. Time to troubleshoot.

check your cables: audio with audio, powercables with powercables & midi cables with midi cables. do not mix up!

disconnect everything and see if the noise is still there. by everything I mean your synths, samplers, FX, mic (!!!), and everything else except your tt & dj mixer

try to get the best cables you can afford. old & cheap cables will give you more noise

check if your dj mixer and tts are still ok

if none of these helped plug your powercables into another plug in the wall. switch, try ... you might fix it



It could be that you simply cant fix it ... means tat your electricity in your house is bad, i dont know much about it but I have that problem here
you can check things by setting up your setup in other rooms

jig, see there's a difference between record noise and this crazy hiss noise that I get. dirty records will cause it to pop and all that crazy mess.

but my noise does come and go. like sometimes when I sample from vinyl, I get a real clean clear recording. but other times it's just ridiculous.

I guess the TT has mood swings like us sometimes?

your pickup might be broke?
or the contact for the ground cable is screwed on the mixer or on the tt... ?

is it like a high pitched sound (electricity) or more like noize... like a noise waveform

aight I checked the back of my TT and there is no wire coming from the back other then the power cord and my outputs. I know the wire yall are talkin about. but mine dosnt have one. it does have a place to put it. it looks like it screws off and you put like one of those flat U shaped wires (like the ones im using with these banana plugs). but what do I connect the other end to? Someone said it has to be touching metal? so I can have that touching anything?

and that gets rid of the noise? what is the purpose for having the TT grouned? im jackin this thread, huh?

I think it has something to do with my soundcard. I have 2 mic inputs in my PC (one in the front, one in the back) the one in the front was making alot of noise but I plugged my mic to the one in the back and it barely had any hiss.

This is how my set up is:

Turntable ---> Stereo ("mixer") ---> PC

I don't have a mixer so I use my stereo, it makes the songs sound better than running my table thru my SP 303 which I also used because I don't have a mixer.

for recording vocals this is my set up:

Mic ---> SP 303 ---> PC


this is how I do things on an almost non-existing budget

yeah you have to ground it.

i ran mine to the chassis of my MPC when I had my 2000.

you got to change this go TT>mixer>stereo>pc this is the proper way to use a dj mixer then you plug the ground from the TT to your mixer,

smoove take a long black wire a nd hook it to your TT and then ground it to your mixer or stereo receiver theres a grnd . somewhere on there.

it you guys still get these hiss sounds try this keep all your rca ,audio plugs away from your power cables your prolly pickin up frequencey sound from a powerpack or from a powercord you need to keep your powercords away from your audio plugs you will get hum or hiss sounds.
