What software do I need for my laptop to be able to work on music while I'm on the road at work....

really depends on what you wanna do with it.

also, get yourself a decent audio editor.

IMO ableton is the best thing out there at the moment, and its perfectly suited as an all in one solution for making music on a laptop.

if your looking for something thats similar to making music on an mpc but software check out Guru. i've been using it as a plugin inside ableton live but you can run it as a standalone program if you want to. http://www.fxpansion.com/product-guru-main.php
