ok boys and girls, you really might hate me for this one, or love me--depending on how you feel about theft.

but i just had an idea on how to get brand new pads, a full set replaced, for free.

guitar center has a 30 day return policy, correct?

what you do is make sure you have enough dough in your account and go buy a brand new mpc. try out all the pads, make sure they're good, and then take it home. crack it open and swap the entire pad set for your old ones. then, take back the mpc to guitar center and complain that A, the pads aren't working and B, you don't like the machine...you'll get your money back....

from the outside, it looks exactly the same. from the inside, well who has to know...

anyone see any problem with this?? other than morality?

I am all for that brother. !

I have no reason to do this, but this is a great Idea.

If I ever need a repair - forget sending it into akai.

i wouldn't do that to a person, just a company

i only swindle large groups of people who will never know it, not ebayers or the like...too much respect for the individual

i really think this would work and intend to find out immediately.

plus, as i posted elsewhere, if the new os isn't released by the time i see black mpc1000s in gc, i'm going there to buy a mpc1000bk--only to take it back, get the os from the card, maybe swap some pads and return it.

that's what i realized. where is the serial number again? if it's on the case you're cool cuz you'd send it back in its original case.

it's on the undercarriage. i'm not sure if you can lift off the bottom plate away from the actual hardware - if so, swap that and you're good.

regardless, pads don't have serial numbers...and that's what i'm interested in anyway......heh

It's wrong.
Apart from anything else - look forward to some poor dude posting here that he's just bought an MPC1K, he's desparate to knock out some beats, and the pads don't work like they should. Are you gonna tell him what the ish is?

he can take it back to gc like i did heh, and sure i'll tell him - tell him to do the same thing i did.

i respect you for having a clear sense of right and wrong in a moral sense, but i do not believe in either...or morality, or souls for that matter but that's besides the point, which is that i'm psyched up on some petty larceny

plus i don't think they just repackage mpcs that get returned as damaged, i think they have em repaired or something, or sell em cheaper someplace else, or use em as floor models...i actually have a friend who works there, i'll ask him.
