so how many of you go out and dig and don't listen to the records you get. I don't. I just grab and go. I just glance at the cover and I am satisfied.

I guess it depends what you're after and how much faith you have in your ability. I listen though, I don't have enough money to waste on wack records. But when I'm sitting down to a new track I just open my cupboard and pick something out. Most of the time its better than knowing what I'm after.
Good luck with it, but I gotta ask, do you have loads of lame records?

sometimes i listen, more often than not i grab and go...if u got a huge stack its hard to listen to every single one

sometimes i feel that listenin to em in the store takes the fun out of it

nod.

i rarely listen, unless they got a station, in which case its most likely a record store, and most likely the prices are higher...so its worth the time.

otherwise, i shop by instinct and what little knowledge i got.

always check the vinyl, though. i'm surprised by what some are saying in my other thread that people just grab the sht then get home and realize the records:

a) gone
b) wrong record
c) scratched to all hell

Yeah I like to go on instinct. Good to challenge yourselves sometimes and buy something totally random as well.

instinct i've gotten pretty good in the last 28 years of diggin, i only listen to them at home andone out of ten is smething i wont use or just put in t pile for the salvage.
but studying and reading linernotes people thats how you find better /or same type of music, occationaloff picks then you start to look for stuff of that group if it's good.

to be honest if i have the chance to preview the record before buying im probably not going to pass on that. most places dont give you this luxury and thats ok too.

I rarely listen i can usually tell if a record is gonna have some good sounds on it, any records that are wack get exchanged quick fast i aint about stacking wack records.

I'm probably one of the odd balls here. I dig for music strictly for my listening pleasure. In 3 years of making music, I've only sampled drum hits and an ocassional ohh and ahh from some lady singers.

I always listen if the place has a turntable unless I'm very familiar with the record. But if I'm that familiar with a record, it's probably because I already have it.

I usually look for artists, musicians and producers that I like, but I still want to hear the record. Many a great artists have put out sub par records.
