the title says it all really, i'd like to know if anyone actually knows exactly how the pads sense how hard you're hitting them.

i've read in other threads on how to replace them/paint on thermal grase etc that they are a simple push to make type affair, but i can't see how the mpc decides how hard you hit it if that is the case.

please, someone enlighten me!!!

it is based on piezo technology. 2 materials are layered to each other and
Pressure generates voltage. The more Pressure the more Voltage.
The same technology as build in lighters where the flame is ignited by a spark. Another use, is the Piezo speakers you know from birthday or x-mas cards with a build in melody. You ever dissasembled one? the speaker in it is flat, and the principe of layered materials is visible. The funny thing is:
you can use these effectively as drum triggers when you build them into rubber pads and connect them with music equipment with drum trigger inputs like an Alesis D4 etc.
We use to do this ten years ago, long before Roland came with V-Drums...

Gosh! thank you! hadn't thought of this, tho i don't see why i didn't. don't suppose you know why the thermal grease trick works then?
