I would also like a better USB interface. It's stupid that you have to unplug the USB after you've used it to use the MPC again.

Co-sign love the suggestion on the kick, snare, hat, etc. on different tracks. I thought of that when i got my 2kXL. you chould have the sound or more likely to have the pad assigned to a track. it is genius! and yes the usb is convient but to get up and unplug it is not!

You can do this...with every MPC..unless I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say.

You can assign a different program to each track. Or you can assign the same program to every track.

Yeah, I think you are misunderstanding me. I know you can assign different programs to different tracks. What I want do is, assign a sound (or a pad) within a program to a track that's different from another sound (pad) in the same program.

For example, if I chop up a drum loop and have all of the sounds assigned to a program (kick, snare, hat, etc.), I want to assign the kick (or the pad that contains the kick) to track 1, assign the snare to track 2, assign the hat to track 3, etc. I know if I played and recorded them independently, I could do this. But, I want to be able to play and record them all at the same time and assign each sound to a different track. Got me?

u can always record the track with the different drum sounds at once then copy the tracks and delete the unnecessary sounds(pads) from the corresponding tracks. Which will seperate the sounds yet still keep the feel with which u recorded it in trhe first place. Inhope tihs helps

i see what you're saying, Cru Jones and i can see why that would be a cool feature. there is a work around for it, of course, which i think Captain Murphy was getting at. in case you're not familiar with the feature i'll just give a quick run-down for you. on one track record your beats using as many pads as you want. next, go into 'seq edit' mode, select 'MOVE' in the 'Edit' window. Highlight the field under 'Notes' and hit the pad with one of the samples you want on a new track and you should see the pad name where it once said 'ALL' (like A01, B16, etc). then go to the 'To' section and select the track number you want to move that sample to and press F6. now you've got all of one part on a new track. this may sound like a lot at first but once you do it a few times you'll rocking this procedure really quick. i like to have all parts on different tracks so this is a way to do it but not as ideal as having a 'MODE' or a quick assign feature like you're describing.

Modulation Matrix
Q-Links control LFO rate(Why the heck didn't they include this)
AKSYS style pgm design network
DVD ROM plays DVD audio(so you can sample dialogue and film music directy from the drive........I mean so I can hear the audio I backed up from my DVD-R drive)
24 bit playing or at least converting capability(Its 2006, man)
I 2nd and 3rd the motion for Auto Chromatic assign(How did this one slip through the cracks. Don't make me save a multisample.pgm template)
Piano role for MIDI mode(like the MPC 4000)

Most of this should be able to be solved in an OS update.
Lets do this AKAI

Right, (almost) all of these points could be implemented easily in the 2500's OS. But honestly, Akai won't give out all these free cookies for everyone, even if it's christmas time. They wanna sell some of their other gear, present and future, as well after all, don't you think so? It's product policy if the 2500 can't do what a possible 4000 successor will.

Another thing that I've noticed is that in Grid Edit, when you delete an event, the Over Dub button automatically turns on after you delete, even if it was turned off before the delete. So, unless you hit the stop button, the next pad you hit will be recorded. Does anybody else find this annoying? Record should stay turned off unless you turn it on.

That would be interesting...but..

I wonder how that would work. When you add a DVD in a DVD player, the movie just doesn't start (most DVDs). You have to go through the menus and select Play/Start Movie. In the MPCs case, the LCD will have to display these menus/video  I don't think Akai is ready for that....especially since it will need an on-board decoder for commercial DVDs.

But the MPC 2500 can playback regular audio files recorded on a DVD-R.

one more for the os update:
if you trigger the samples in your 25k by for example a midi drumtrigger. the slider doesn't work as it would with the 1k (I try to filter the sample with the slider while i trigger it via midi) the 1k did that perfectly but the 25k only filters when the slider moves. if i trigger the sample again (without moving the slider) the sound sounds normal again (unfiltered)

MTC sync

Excuse my ignorance but is this something that can be implemented software side?

Better implementation of USB (pain in the azz plugging/un-plugging USB cables  )

Damn right.

Someone also mentioned AKSYS software. I've never used it myself so I'm not sure what it's capabilities are but I have been using something called MPC187 on the Mac for setting up pgms which works fine. What does AKSYS bring to the table..?

I've got another one for the wish-list. It would be nice to have individual pad control over the note repeat button. Like being able to set the note repeat quantization differently on each pad. For example, have the pad with the hi hat set at 1/8 repeats, but have the kick and the snare set at 1/16th repeats. I think this would give a lot more flexibility when playing live.

MTC sync can be added with an OS update. The MPC 2000 didn't have MTC sync with the first OS. It was added months later. I do hope Akai add this to the next OS update.

Aksys software allows you to control Akai products from your computer. You can control all aspects of the sampler, mixer, effects, etc from your PC. You can even drag -n- drop samples from your PC directly into the RAM of your sampler. Using the MPC 4000, samples can be dropped directly into programs..assigning these sounds directly to pads. This is a great feature.

This is a disappointment. I believe this is a 'bug' for sure.

I got another one..but this may be a hardware issue. If you send a sound signal into the MPCs input, you can hear it in the MPCs output even when the input thru function is turned off.

I really hope they make akSys work with the 2500, but I cant see it happening.

The 4k has a z8 at its heart of course and the structure of the sampler is different than other MPC's

They'd have to write a whole new sestion to the s/w to work with the 2500 / 1000.

Would be great, but I cant see it happening; not anytime soon anyway.

However, Id settle for a constant USB connection so we could zip files back and forth from the computer to edit without having to go to that damn USB connect screen, and all the hassle of pluggin / unplugging the cable (tip until then - use a USB extender cable where the join is somewhere easy to hand, saves fiddling behind the computer or MPC)

I don't have that problem. If you talk about recording, there is "Monitor" function you'd have to turn off though.
