Should I Buy: MPC 2000xl or RS 7000

Hello everyone, I need help on buying an all in one Drum machine/Sync/Sampler. I am having a hard time picking one. I produce hip hop and mainly use my Triton, Cubase, Reason, and Sound Forge. I know the MPC is a great tool for hip hop but a sells person at the guitar center told me that the RS7000 is a better machine. Please any help would be greatful.

Seriously, mate - people are always asking that question on this forum - you are never going to get an unbiased opinion, in fact you'll never get anything but praise for the MPC and contempt for the Yamaha! I'm sure you'll get the opposite on a RS7000 forum.

Seriously, I will give you an unbiased opinion: DON'T EVER LISTEN TO ANYONE AT GUITAR CENTER!!!! EVER!!! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!! Trust me on this one. Unlike most sales associates at other music stores, they don't know anything about musical equipment besides what products to sell you that will make them money. I have walked in there many times and made this very same mistake to the point that I've spent thousands extra that I didn't need to. My favorite story is this one: 5 years ago, I went in to buy an MPC not knowing too much about samplers, etc. I ended up walking out with an ASR-X (which cost as much as an MPC but is not even nearly as nice as an MPC) that a salesman convinced me was better. I felt like a fool for the next 4 years until I sold the ASR-X for like $350 on eBay. The moral of the story is this: I was ready to buy an MPC, but because the salesman could make more money on the ASR-X, he convinced me to buy that. This has happened many times since then, but I haven't given into their B.S. as I did that first time. As you can tell I've very passionate about this issue. With a resource like the internet and countless producers online who would love to give you their opinion, there is no reason to listen to anyone at Guitar Center.

Now, my biased opinion on the MPC: buy it, I'm very glad I did.

Yep, never ask a big music shop 'what's best?' because 'what's best' is whatever they bought 5000 units of that month and are in desparate need of shifting pronto.

I have the 2000xl. My friend has a RS7000. He showed me all about it. There are some cool things about it. There are some real-time pattern chaining capabilities that are cool (kinda like using Ableton Live).
It is loaded with lots sounds already in it.....but most of the sounds are really cheesy and useless in my opinion. I think it would be best suited to someone who was a songwriter who wants to make demos of songs before they actually make a 'serious' recording of it with real musicians.
I don't think it's as cool for someone making hiphop beats and such.
It only has 2 velocity sensitive pads. The other pads are just little buttons which kinda suck to use (sorta the way the SP1200 buttons suck to use.)
Obviously the MPC has 16 pads, and if you like banging out beats by hand then get an MPC for sure.

yes sir......they tell you anything.......a salesman told me not to buy the mpc 2000 and buy a computer and pack it with there expensive software.......and i was tricked into buying a triton when the motifs and triton studio was dropping all at guitar center...they are rip offs anyway selling the mpc 2000xl with nothing in it for $1300 today

2000xl at sam ash for $1099 with nothing in it.

Only reason I would tell you to get the RS7000.. is if you want the onboard sounds.. and I hear it has better timescretching. I have a friend who had a fully upgraded RS and ended up selling it. I find the MPC's sequencer superior tho some will disagree.. its the best hardware sequencer out.. PERIOD. IF you want a drummachine/sampler/seq the choice is clear.. MPC!
