setting up...?

Hey, it took me a while but I finally have an MPC 2000, a Sony turntable and a small mixer. I was just wondering what cables i need to hook them all together. What hooks into what? It looks like i might need 1/4 inch to RCA, but any info would be greatly appreciated.

you also need some monitors so you can hear! no, the vent on the 2000 is not a speaker!

you need to plug your output into a channel on your mixer (if you want to use it). then from your mixers output into your monitors...

or you can plug your monitors direrctly into your mpc

i have the turntable hooked up to the mixer, now do i just need to hook the mixer into the mpc using the 1/4 to rca?

Thanks a lot guys, i got everything hooked up and it works, but i can barely hear the sample i recorded onto the MPC. Is there anyway to fix this?

Turn up the volume?

Also try normalizing the sample....

is there a "full level" button next to the pads? (there is on the 4000) This makes the pads play at a much higher volume.

Also, is the mixer a DJ mixer because you might need a phono pre-amp to apply RIAA curves and amplifcation to the analogue signal you get out of the 'table before you input it into anything else?

the mixer i have is a Behringer Eurorack, so would this be the reason why i can barely hear my loaded sample?

naw that probably wont be the reason unless you dont have the volume up....

also if your not connected right. your plugs might be in the wrong jacks...

the outs on your mixer is RCA?? you sure? the output from your MPC needs to be going into one of the channeld on your mixer. then your mixers output need to be going to some kind of speakers or somewhere that lets you hear what your doing.

Your turntable could have a preamp on board but its very unlikely. I'd check using the model number, also I think its only Stanton DJ decks that have a line level output. What you need to do is invest in a phono preamp likethis or find an old Hi-Fi amp that has a "phono" input that is for a record deck. Then you take the output of your 'table and input it in the preamp/Hi-Fi amp and then take take the output of that and put it into your mixer/mpc etc. If I'm correct, the reason your signal sounds weak is because vinyl is mastered through special RIAA EQ curves that make the sound possible to cut to vinyl so that the needle doesn't jump everywhere. To get a proper sound you need a preamp to reverse the EQ and amplify the signal (which is why you should never plug a CD player into a "phono" input because you'll blow your amp). All DJ mixers come with this as standard because they all need to cater for vinyl but standard recording mixers do not because they're designed for line-level signals.
