You can install the Flash memory board for an extra 8MB - but it costs around the same as the 8 outs, so it's not exactly cost effective. If memory is a problem, either get an MPC1000 or 4000, or learn to use the memory more wisely - for example, sample vinyl at 45rpm and then use the tuning in your MPC to slow the sample back down to normal tempo. Sample in mono whenever possible and add stereo effects at the mixing stage.

"I need more memory"
I try to make my tracks take up the smallest amount of space as possible, only because I don't like having a 3 meg file for a beat, and 2 megs of samples that arn't even used in the track. What are you sampling to make your tracks? The whole song?
Anyways, you can always buy a rack sampler that can handle more ram. This way, you can trigger the sounds without using the memory in your MPC. When I first started with the mpc, 2 megs wasn't enough, but now I don't think I even use up that much memory when doing beats. Post up one of your tracks so I can hear what your doing.. I'm interested in knowing what a track sounds like that takes up more than 32 megs.

I upgraded to 32 megs, because I wanted to do a song that took up more than the 2 megs, and now I only use alot of memory when I am doing an interlude or intro and outro with vocal snippets from movies or something... I don't think I ever even use all 32 megs, what will I do if I buy a 4000 or 1000 with 128? I don't think I'll ever even need to upgrade... I wonder what a 32mb song sounds like also... post that up!

32 mb not enough ?
You must be doing something wrong. Last week I made a song entirely in the MPC including the vocals. Obviously the vocals had not been recorded on the MPC but simply imported after and assigned to pads , with some compression and EQ touch-ups. Anything is possible with the 32 mbs.

OK...well, let's say first that I'm sampling some synth pad's in stereo #1..which I know I could do in Mono.
And I know the MPC is primarily designed as a beat machine.
The synth pads are 8 individual heavily processed chord changes (think Mouse on Mars)...and I recorded three different synth pads of the same chord change...and assigned them to individual programs.
Each chord change (warped out rhodes...delayed wurlitzer...eriee glass bottles), with decay lasts @ 7 -8 seconds...that times 32 chord changes ramped me up to ..well, about 190 seconds.
So I'm gathering this is an unconventional way to use the machine?!?
Sure I could play the various pads on a keyboard, but I got the sounds so tweaked out that to reproduce it again would have been difficult...I like to work on things over time and this was a good way to just document a sound and be able to come back to it, and know it would still be exactly tweaked
...but the concept was to sort of dance around the machine as the groove was playing and strike the MPC pads triggering the various changes..including layering many of them.
Does'nt anyone else do this??

Well my first thought would be to get another sampler and use the MPC to trigger these sounds. To save memory you could loop the samples in the middle using the techniques in the Soundforge tutorial on the site which also work in an MPC).
But converting to mono still seems the best option to me.

32 Mb is enough though, why do you need moren then that? I cant Imagine needing more then 32

All you have to do is save your program like, Program01, and make a new program something like, Program02....There goes another 32 Mb....Unless 1 beat is takin up 32 Mb...Then thats some shit.....

option 1: cut down on the time of each sample. If you have the onboard fx on the MPC, you can keep processing the new shorter samples, and that will make them longer (if you're down with reverb/delay...). Or loop a shorter bit, like Mr. MPC suggested. If you're playing multiple pads and layering, it won't be obvious that you're looping an individual pad. Have you heard Wolfgang Voigt's "gas" records? Sounds exactly like what you're describing. I bet that dude uses an MPC or something similar. Anyway--
option 2: Use fewer variations (but the original size remains). Again, instead of 32 chord changes, cut that shit down to about 10. I mean damn! Do you need all 32? Now be honest....This way, you'll be forced to keep only the necessary. Use fewer of these changes and I bet you'll end up with a clearer production. Don't forget that you can keep processing the samples you choose to keep (if, say, two of them are still too similar, you can keep rockin' it and **** up one of them in the MPC fx).
There are probably other ways, but these are the most intuitive to me. Good luck,
Ben

Hey Trunk..
Thanks for the ideas...All of which I'm aware of yes..and very good suggestions. And no, your're not understanding, it's not 32 "different chord changes" it's an 8 chord tune that I've got a different 4 different sounding pads on the same chord...you see. I layer them in different configurations...only 8 chords though.
You know ..I posted this originally 'cos I remember reading an article where the Drummer, Carrie Lynn...for Herbie Hancock, uses a MPC2000xl on stage..and somehow had her memory ramped up..to if I remember 64mb...by some cat who does it custom..that's what (who) I'm looking for.
I know it's an unconventional use of the MPC2000xl machine..but I'm not into computers and software, and realize that's where my technique would reside best at.
Listen..making dope beats is one way to use the machine..I'm just going outside the box...I think the trick in todays music is to plug shit in that shoudn't be pluged together, and use equipment in ways it maybe was'nt intended to get something unique and new..
Everything today is sounding like ****'n pro-tool and plug-in's.
Thanks again Trunk...rock on

Seriously, I agree, you shold use the MPC in unconventional ways. I'd suggest getting a rack sampler (I got an S2000 w/8 outs on eBay for $200). Then use the MPC for shorter samples and to trigger longer loops on the rack sampler.
Whatever someone is going to charge you for adding more memory would probably cost more than another sampler.
