question for mpc2000xl users

Which one would you prefer:

using effects(reverb, compression) from outboard gear or;
using effects from computer software


i'm currently stuck in decision, b/c i want to have those effects on my drums, but lately been getting in the mood to start copping some outboard gear.

Waves makes sick plugins. Their reverbs are **** insane. Not to dis on outboard gear by any means but there is some really well written software. Plus it's all confined to you computer and pulling up compressor presets on hardware isn't the easiest thing unless you spend $$$$. I would check them both out. I think Waves gives you a 15 day trial of everything they carry.

I myself perfer to use the effects on the mpc-EB16: Multi-effects processor board works great for me.

yes indeed. don't rule out anything and keep an open mind..

true dat, im usin a combination of outboard and software.

and when performing live i use only machines, so i rely 100% on my alesis microverb 4(not really that good but enuff for me atm)and on a dod trashmaster distortion pedal...on aux send obviously...
but when i write tracks at home i use tons of plugs , especially the free ones u can find on www.smartelectronix.com and the WAVES suite.
not to mention im a buzz user and buzz comes with an always updated and growing ****load of plugins...

nothing can emulate a tube preamp or a tube compressor, its all about the tubes baby. Tube tech, Manley, Neve, etc. expensive yeah. same with reverb,outboard. computer you can use for other effects, but interfaces are needed you need knobs, My 2 cents.

seems like u are forgettin the whole Convolution Reverbs stuff...
it was firstly on hardware, now nobody is producin those machines and everything is done via software plugins...with great results i hear...

Either works fine, its just a matter of preference. I tried the software approach first and it didnt stick with me. Now I use a Lexicon MX110 for reverb and Alesis 3630 for compression and I am finally getting a good feel for it. Go with what allows you to get to work faster while doing what you need the piece to do.

Cheap, ie 'average' hardware is, for the same money, easily beaten by some of the software you can get. Whereas expensive hardware is hard to be beaten.
