Hey guys, im having trouble with pro tools recognizing a midi change in the MPC. Here's the deal, there is a "16 levels" featur eon the Akai MPC that allows you to pick a sound and pitch it to the pad on the MPC, so if you chose a kick, and used the 16 levels feature on that then it would be assigned to all the pads so you can hit a low kick or a high kick. SO thats what Im trying to do, but when i record into pro tools, pro tools does not see the pitched kicks, it just plays then regularly. I'd really like to do this, so if anyone has any feedback or help please let me know, thank you!
If I'm understanding your question correctly you are sequencing in the MPC and then opening that sequence in PT to control the MPC with PT's sequencer(or something to that effect).
16 levels doesn't transmit 16 midi notes it just pitches them internally which is why an outboard sequencer only triggers the original sample at the original pitch. If you go into the STEP screen you'll see the sequencer isn't recognizing different pads, just the same pad being pitch shifted.
There are a quite a few ways to achieve what you want to do though:
You can assign the kick to as many pads as you need and pitch them all to your liking or you can pitch the kick by using the auto chromatic feature, this will give you way more kick pitches then you need and will use up another program but the PT sequencer will recognize the changes.
