Beats

Ok we all obviously come up with music with some sort of beat. I'm assuming most of you are into hip hop production. Anything else? I actually use my beats in conjunction with electric guitars and bass, played not sampled, and lots of acoustic and electronic instruments. I also write some Jungle and Drum 'n' Bass from time to time. I'm a fairly newer MPC2000XL owner, or any MPC for that matter, but I tell you this thing is a **** workhorse for all rhythm based music. It is by far the funnest piece of equipment I've owned in the, I guess like 15 years, of collecting instuments and gear.

So this is a pole of sorts. Shout out the genre(s) you write.

hip hop, r&b, pop, spoken word, I dont just make beats I make music. Alot of my beats dudes cant rap on because thier so Random, THier just nice to listen to. Thats my style

And that, I respect cause it's all about your own personal touch with whatever comes outta your fingertips... No matter if they can rap to it or not, it's YOURS....

the 2kxl was my first mpc and also my first piece of hardware.... i mostly do drum n' bass with some experimental beats and some times a little of the more rythm oriented techno/house styles

helo, i produce mainly 190 to 230 bpm hard and dark breakcore, sometimes i produce some more experimental dark\ambient - noize tracks and often i produce some twisted hip hop instrumentalz for friends.

I create Drum & Bass stuff occasionally when I have a bit of free time on my hands but for the last year I have been pretty much using my gear live and to produce the band that I am in currently which is a kind of Funkadelic meets Ska meets Indie band with lots of blips and electronic background stuff so the MPC is perfect for that!

I do like IDM, soundtrack scores, and a little Trip Hop.
I use the 2KXL to program, then PT to manipulate.

hip hop to the core

I am a HUGE Afrobeat head. Fela Kuti, Femi, Hugh Masekela, Tony Allen, etc. Along with a friend of mine who plays Djembe we try to add afrobeat flavor to Hiphop, Deep House and R n B tracks. Sample alot of african records. Starting to listen to alot of Broken Beat. I love the two step rhythms.

lol, i know its kinda strange inn here but thats what i do! and it comes out really well with realistic sounds! now im experimenting on layering more sounds (example: have the separated sounds on pad bank A while on pad bank B i put combos like kick+crash , snare+open charlie etc...) and in duplicating sounds and makin em loop in strange ways (also to emulate that double pedal double kick common in death metal for example). plus the NV slider is my friend on creating mor enatural snare fills or tom fills here and there.

thats also to say that the common clichè for which mpcs are only good for hip hop, rnb and common breakbeats is untrue ))
mpc's are good for everything!
plus in my case the learnin curve appears to be very fast( only thing is i dont use the normal way of sequencin inside the mpc, for very complex patterns i sequence on cubase and then feed the monster with midi files and then add drums or other shit playng with pads...)

mpc defntly changed my production life for the good

i make Deep House, i use the MPC for drums, the JV1080 for organs sounds & pads, the SH-101 for that real hard bass, and a TR-707 i got only yesterday to clock the 101.
