L/R bass sample

does anyone know how to make a bassline from a guitar on the right and left channels??I've been making a line, rerecording to the right channel and triggering both samples at the same time ...I've got the feeling there is a better way.javascript:emoticon(':?')

bass guitar is a mono instrument & bass is omni directional so hard panning l/r doesn't seem to make much sense in a mix.

That said, u can always assign the sample to two pads and pan them l/r if you really want to do this.

yup! that's how bass lines are recorded anywhere

man never pan your bass anywhere! if its your bassline, it needs to be centered. it will mess your mixes up. the engineer over at 51 seemed pretty upset that in one of the tracks the bass (either the kicks or the bassline) was panned. it threw him off and didnt sound right.

I dont think its a good idea to do that.

well in adobe audition, when you have a mono recording/sample, you can always convert the sample type.

if its a mono sample and I need it in stereo, i convert it to 16bit Stereo, 44100

having the guitar in both channels, all that means is having it in stereo (from what I understand). do you have any editing program that can convert it from mono to stereo? that should be all you need

If I understand you right, you want the same sound on L and R channel.
When you record set mode to mono L or mono R.

IMO bass needs to be dead center, only if it is really deep and subby. if you are working with a sound which has more low-mid material, like a bright recorded bass guitar or some kind of synth sound which isn't all the way in the bottom register, you can try some experimental stuff, for example, make a copy of the sample and hard pan the two left and right, then apply slight differences to one or the other, or both. this will create the impression of a wider sound due to the slight differences in left and right. not recommended for subby bass, though.

Or he can add a stereo effect to a mono bassline to give it a better image, if needed. As long as the bassline is recored well it should fill up the beat without that tho.

I do this every now and then for some songs and it works well also.
But usually I keep the bassline mono.

what mpc are you using?

the 4000 can convert in the sample edit page. mono to stereo, stereo to mono

This thread was in the mpc1000 section but for some strange reason moved to here.
What i read is that invisogoo records his signal in stereo mode instead of mono l or mono r.
