Age old Q? --> Out a Date Answers!!

OK my scsi zip disks have both finaly died....been looking into card readers for a while now....

i live in UK and have no access to credit or plastic means of purchase:(((

anybody know where i can get a MPC2000XL compatible Reader that takes both SD cards and SM cards.. and is hot-swappable so no need to turn off before eject!!

any model numbers that fit that criteria?

any shops local to shropshire??


If this question gets on your nerves then dont frown ..just pat yourself on the back for having the answers already..and dont reply with some typical web address unless u know they deal with people living in the country with out CREDIT CARD facility... sorry to be blunt but every post i read on this subject ends with out of date links saying this has been answered before ......so just positive answers please!!

I feel your pain.
This is what I went through

I live in Toronto, Canada and was trying to find a card reader without ordering from the net. I looked in a ton of the geeky computer parts shops and end-of-line places here and couldn't find anything but blank uncomprehending stares or people pushing slick looking internal card readers with usb motherboard connectors on them.

Because I was looking to hook up my non-XL MPC2000 and everyone kept sending me those links you talk about I got a little frustrated, but Lampdog and others did come through with some usefull advice. It might not be of help to you if you can't get a credit card though. I needed an external SCSI and I was able to track down a place that can sell me one but I am putting it off while I contemplate trading up to an XL or 2500.

(There's all that and theDSI Evolver that haunts my dreams since I played with one last month)

This is the drive that I would get and put in an XL, and there are people on here that have done exactly that.

Not much help from me I know, but I thought you might get something out of my experience.

and just for hilarity I will remind you to search the archives and then I'll say something cutting about why don't people sift through the hundreds of posts with conflicting information including some total wackjobs, misinformation, different configurations etc. etc.

thanks for leaving out the sarcasm this time !!!!!

i found that thread a few times....but no where in the UK ( i can only really send postal orders or even cash as a last resort for cheapish things)

Most likely me and not you SS.

I tend to clown on cats alot when I see a RTFM type question
or when cats don't even attempt to think for themselves and just ask super simple stuff.

This thread wasn't any of that so I didn't clown at all.
It's a good question and a REAL problem.

i got me PC usb card reader installed with 2 formatted cards and a big hole in the MPC....

Sometimes I want to travel back in time, hunt down those people at Iomega and their evil ancestors of Syquest (sounds like a fookin' fantasy novel) and be there in the meeting when they show the prototypes, smash the prototype and run out screaming "I changed history, I changed history", pick up some microsoft and apple stock and get back to the new millenium.

I thought so too. especially in what I thought would be geek heaven. I am still looking for a good computer store that has old stuff not just new and grey market stuff.
