Mega dude, let me give you one advice: keep away from ebay!
Ebay is pretty dope for records, BUT its not a recordstore. That said ebay is real dope to get some ill shyt, if you know what you're looking for. In meanwhile I also "digg" on ebay, but I know what kind of ish I search for. If you just sitting there wondering what to type in to find dope samples, youll never get anywhere. Thats just hit and miss...

Build your knowledge from digging and buying records. If your stores aint all that, like you said, hit up the fleamarkets! Check padofeliac, he does antique stores and wellfare sales. There is always a gap to jump into. Dont sweat yourself with looking for "instant-collections" unless they have lots of stuff you KNOW is good and also isnt far away so you can pick it up. Shipping on a big stack is a bytch to pay for.
Once you graduate digging elementary you may proceed towards ebay

If you're really desperate you could always follow e.d.e's (?) advice and learn on the net. Google for funk groups. Check some discographies. Download some albums and figure out which lables/years/players/composers are dope to you. you will develope an own taste sooner than you think. Oh yeah, please dont post crappy loads of random records. we see youre stuggling but "look what i didnt buy" is fukcing pointless unless there is more to it than a pile of abba records

I've been buying alot off of ebay lately but i guess it's kind of like what Toon said,once you get the knowledge of what you want then Ebay isn't a bad option.But research first and then get out and pound the street.I'm sure you can find more locally then you ever would on Ebay.Even if you get 40 albums 5 of them might be worth keeping.Although me personally i keep everything,even when i buy a bunch of crap in bulk.I also agree with toon about shipping,you can save that doe go out locally and have more to spend.

I say do buy comps, do buy cheesy records. Let's face it guys all the "raw" records we could possibly already know about have been mined for samples already. Plus it's on those oddball, cheesy looking records that the real jems hide. Anything that is at dustygrooves has been sampled TO DEATH....don't even waste your time.

That's just my 2 cents.

thats a bunch of bs. At least messing with dusty groove your dealing with somewhat rare records and reissues, instead of looping up led zep or the beatles from garage sale digging. My theory is shet in shet out. If you start out with good samples, well your beat just might turn out good. This kid is crying about how there is no good records by him, then why not go and buy some good goddamn reocrds? Newbies should def fuk with the groove, cause by buying these records u learn things such as labels, what artists play what, producers, what studios it was done in, what year, etc... etc... So even if it has been sampled to death, it still offers valuable info and will get you alot farther alot quicker. thats my 2 cents. messing with random bs ebay lots will get you nowhere fast. All the bangers have been weeded out and you get stock bullshit that u can find on any dig. work smarter not harder.

Binger, that's a good point about learning which labels, porducers and musicians you like by picking up good records. I guess I should have been clearer I don't mean don't buy any good records, hell you gotta have something to listen to but at some point, if you are serious about making music you gotta take the sampling game to the next level and no one wants to hear the same old James Brown loop...so I guees I was just trying to say the crap records don't necessarily equal crap sampling.

I don't know. I feel like I maybe have a different attitude toward sampling than most on this site. I NEVER flip a loop on a beat. I just have to cut everything up and make it my own, instrument by instrument. If a record sucks but has a nice sounding marimba I can cut up, I consider it a good buy. You feel me? I guess I don't come here often enough to know how far folks take musicianship around here...but it doesn't seem to deep, to be honest. Argh..damn, this is coming out wrong. I feel like sampling is an art, but it's not being a musician. It's like making a collage instead of painting. Both are equally dope but just different....but at the same time, you need theory learned in painting class to make a good collage.

I'm rambling. I wish we could sit around a mull this over in person cause I always come off as a dick on the internet without trying to.

Alot of the stuff i have is so old and obscure noone even thinks to look at.Which is too bad cause they're missing out on some dope stuff.In turn it makes things harder to flip which makes me better in the long run.Which is not a bad thing at all.

Then i have those joints that have been used a few times and it's just not the same trying to flip those.But still,good music is good music.I love the classic stuff that i have but not near as much as i love the rare.Isn't that the point of digging??

Go ahead and laugh but recently i've been buying alot of stuff online.Alot of the older rare stuff that's not easy to come by at a descent price.The only thing i don't like is how they always hit you in the head for shipping.But it's all good.I still get out and do the footwork though on the weekends.

I have to admit the more stuff i find the more i'm getting addicted.I have about 10 bookmarked sites i check for vinyl on the regular and i even call the guy i get my records from on a daily.He's an old school cat too so he's not only hooking me up with albums he's providing the knowledge.You gotta love that.
