Different Sounds Using MIDI and Sound Module?

Aiight peeps. Here is my question and I f*cks with the Classic....

Lets say I record MIDI data on track one using my sound module using the bass patch. Am I able to go to track 2 using MIDI and record using another sound from my sound module? I noticed If I change the sound it changes it on the previous track too. Sound modules can only work with one sound at a time on playback? Does anyone understand my question? I wanna be able to use the bass from my sound module on track one and maybe the strings from the module on track two but if I change the sound on track two it changes it on track one. Is there a remedy? Do I have to mess with the "1A" thingy next to the "MIDI" on the track itself?

you can have up to 32 midi channels on the 2kxl, not sure about the 2k though..

some sound modules lets you play only one sound and some lets you play more... i dont know about the one you have...


if i remember it right, the "1a" thing selects which channel on up to two (i think) modules or synths ect. you want to play.... so "a" is one synth and "b" is another...

and the numbers 1a - 16a and 1b - 16b is all the different channels you can use but ONLY if your module support playing more than one sound that is...

This is how some do it on the triton extreme and 2kxl.

i wish mpc had "resampling" where you can record a sample while the sequencer is playing, very convient and time saving etc.

anyway you have 4 possible options 1: depending on your sound module you may be able to do it you would need to read the manuals closely, more importantly experiment around, my guess is you cant. 2: sample the sound module into a mindisc/cd burner/computer/sampler etc if you have digital in/out digital it into the mpc if not analog works just fine, repeat for second patch.
3. Multisample, sample individual notes into the mpc and sequence it.
4. buy a midi merger its a product that will allow you to do it even if the sound module normaly would not allow you to.

i usually go with option #2 its a pain though because my mini disc has optical in/out mpc has coaxial i have a converter but you have switch a lot of cables back and forth and switch a button on the conveter either optical>coax or coax>optical and you have to get in there with a pen or tooth pick to change it.

ASR10 back in the day did this FLAWLESSLY and I LOVED it for that. It took some years before other gear caught on to that but it was a great tool that I used VERY MUCH.

I used to do #2 (insert joke here) ALOT when I first got my 2kxl.
