Westcoast Sound?

Hi,

I dn't get that Westcoast Sound, that high Thingy, on Dr. Dre, 2Pac Records...u know??

Can someone help me about that Problem?

BTW; I work with Reason and MPC1k..

That's a minimoog. Nothing out there can really emulate it, so you might wanna look out for a Moog prodigy, they're often sold for only 400$.
There's also the Arturia Minmoog vst, but IMO it's nowhere near the real thing. Even my Nord 2 can bust out a more realistic moog sound.

Love that sound...loved it since dopeman...but can't bring myself to buy the minimoog for $1500. Maybe I will buy a cheaper moog one day.

by the homo term "that high thingy" Im gonna assume you mean the leads that are very popular in west coast tracks(also known as worm leads, Im guessin this name came from the lead thats being emulated from Ohio Players "funky worm"). You can load up a lead preset in the subtractor or the malstrom synths in reason and start tweaking or start from scratch with a sine wave with a touch of portamento

I call it the gangster whistle

I call it The West Coast Worm.

You can approximate this sound on many synthesizers......not just Moogs.

Fruity loops has a patch called gangsta whine that sounds real g-funk.
I heard one dude get a sound like that out of a microkorg but he is ill at programming that thing.

it didnt come from any type of instruments, it was just the type of instruements that dr. dre sampled, like nuttin' but a g thang is taken from leon haywood - i wanna do something freaky.....it started out as sampled they many more try to emulate that preferred sound....

i thought he had musicians who replayed the originals...

sometimes he does sometimes he doesnt, dont matter, there are no leads on Leon Haywoods track, they're strings and brass....

I was just about to say, there's no lead at all on "I wanna do somthing freaky to you". However I also didn't know that track was any type of basis for "g thang"

Gonna go listen to it...
