says "write protect" everytime i try and save

when i try and save anything onto a floppy on my mpc 2kxl a message comes up saying "write protect", i tried formatting a disc as well but the same thing happens. i can load sounds fine but can't save anything because of this message. i tried a number of different discs but the same thing happens. does anyone know what it means and what can be done? thanks

try flicking the tab underneath the floppy.

thanks for the reply. i tried that but it still says write protect when im trying to save stuff. it was working fine the other day too. one thing that could be the problem is that i put a floppy in the other day and the metal bit got stuck inside, i got it out though and it still loads up sounds fine but do you think that could have anything to do with it? cheers!

Why didn't you say that from the begining..? It might some internal damaged to the drive.. floppy drives are cheap these days, go to any mom and pop shop and get another one.. Easier to spend $20 or less than to drive yourself crazy over a floppy drive..

It may be time to look at zip they hold more and they load faster too.

thanks. if i go for an external zip drive which is the best to get?

what i meant by that was, will any external zip drive with a SCSI cable work with my mpc? i just want to get something really cheap so i can start saving sounds and making beats again. cheers
