i mean.....

i was told and im sure ive read:

"once a zip disk has been formatted on the MPC the pc zip will no longer recognise it"

Since knowing that ive only formatted mine with the pc usb Zip Disk...

except for 2 disks which i got with my MPC never have been recognisable in the PC Zip Drive (d'oh)

but as they seem to SAVE and LOAD in and out of the MPC OK i assumed they must have been formatted in the MPC ..

.. just wondered if is a way to get them to format in a PC again???

thanks Jazzur

just had a thought.....does the Z4 recognise MPC zip disks??

if so is there any reason why i cant just usb to the z4 then transfer to or from the zip disk??

think i'll have a readup on it and give it a go.....i'll add results to this page

any advice in the meantime welcome!

I've had success running LindowsLive (Linux distro that boots from cd, no install needed) to read them. Kinda complex though.

Bets thing to do is just load em into the mpc, format the disks on your pc, then save from the mpc to your newly formatted disks. Also, use FAT (regular), nothing else will work.

try installing iomega tools, and using fat16 filesystem with windows... etter yet update to flash cards

my own works..but what kind of zip drive is it? a parallel? scsi?

my own is a parallel and i formatted my disks on the mpc and work quite fine on the pc...if it doesn't work, go to iomega's site..there's updates for zip drive accesibility

thanks all

but to clear a few things up....the disks (not drive) didnt recognise in windows , but did in the MPC..thats why i cant format or run anytools from the PC.....

it had gotten to a point where i could no longer transfer PC <--> MPC

Then last night i had brain wave of using the SCSI on the Z4 to bridge the gap...

Works like a dream .. heres how i got it configured:

PC<---(usb)---> Z4 <---(scsi)-----> ZIP <---(scsi)---> MPC

thanks to the Z4 having USB .

The Zip Disk now appears in ak.sys ......cool just drag and drop then load into MPC. and visa versa Save to zip then drag to desktop....

aint it a pity the MPC dont show up in ak.sys????????

YO! if the Zip disk is formatted mpc and you want to get those sounds in the computer. You first insert a blank disk into the computer FORMAT it. LOAD the sounds you want from the "problem" Disk into the MPC, then insert the PC FORMATTED disk into the MPC's zip drive and Save the sounds onto the PC FORMATTED disk, Which will work in both the mpc and computers Zip drives.

jimisteele, sounds good in theory. but i have folders of kits and beats on a 250mb zip formated in the mpc, and have just made the transition to flash cards.

I been looking fo a card reader for ages along with blank Zip disks....but with no credit card i cant find either....locally or indeed in the country (england)

hence my other thread about finding card readers.....i even bought the pc card reader and 512mb sd card...which in the light of no mpc card reader, im gonna get a refund on them both in a few minutes......would prefer to have some new vinyl or green than something thats gonna be no use.

thanks all....but i can do everthing i want at last with this new setup...its just not gonna be as portable as i'd like so 'in time' i think i'll find a nice quite cool running internal Scsi Hard Drive....so all i'd need to be portable would just be the MPC.

That's EXACTLY how I had gotten my floppy disk to zip when I first
changed from floppy to zip. After that, I format EVERYTHING via PC fat16, so I NEVER have problems transferring. My CF Card, I treat it the SAME way, it is PC formatted fat 16.

What do you mean you can't find a card reader? The link to vv has been posted a couple of times here.

"I been looking fo a card reader for ages"

But using YOUR system of "formatting on the MPC" is not solved by the type of disk sytem used. You are still going to have the same problem getting cards recognized on the PC when you use 1.14.

"....but with no credit card "

And that is a problem? Funny, without a CC I have purchased many items from around the world without any problems. Maybe you aren't trying hard enough. When I sell stuff, people often send me international money orders in the mail. Imagine that! Using something that pre-dates the internet by some 150 years! The internet is the enabler, not the hurdle.

well when i say no Credit cards i mean NO CREDIT/DEBIT not even a bank account....

i do manage to get records from all over the world but thats only a few quid here n there so i can afford to send cash.

as this thread seems to waver curiously into "my till is bigger than your will" territory i think i'll simplify the initial Q?:

Can i get a MPC formatted Zip disk to be 'Recognised' by my PC again?

-When the PC just says no disk in drive (even though it recognises other disks fine).
