does everyone mixdown their own songs?

does everyone here do all the finalization to their tracks themselves? like compression, mixdown, stuff like that? im asking because i dont have a compressor or multitrack... computer software or anything like that... im not really interested in buyin all that ish and learining all about it... at least not right now... but my question is how should i go about getting all that good stuff done?

I do my own stuff, create on my mpc, multitrack into PC, vocals, process, mix, whatever and burn to CD. Done..

I do all my own stuff record track by track into sonar and tweak all the instruments from there. Sometimes depending on what kind of track it is I'll do the hook myself. I feel more complete as a producer being able to mixdown my own stuff.

Yeh man a little, i use T-Racks mastering to smooth it all off. Thats all I really see it as, "smoothing off" If you really wanna get into it you can spend thousands of dollars and many years getting the art perfect before its anywhere near studio quality, i like my beats rough and ready ya know.

you gotta do producing / engineering in a hands on manner to really call yourself a "producer" by todays standards

I gots to disagree, recently my homie started doing the mixdowns and mixing levels for my tracks and he brings out true shine in em. Sometimes it helps to have fresh ears cause they approach your track differently.

But if he does something i truely aint feeling i will say something.

T-Racks is a monster aint it? I love it but don't use it as much as I'd like to. I too used to Sound Forge 7.0.. I would never forsake my SF..

yo learn that shit ur self there r nuff articles and sites on the net that will help inform u about the processes, goals of each stage of the mixing and mastering process.

then practice and experiment with recording and mixing until u start getting a sound u like.

all recordings n mixes dont need to be perfect they just need to work

theres a big difference between mastering and mixing- if you want someone to master your tunes...check the thread on mastering houses....

Yeh its a nice prog, does everything it shuld and you can get a fat sound from it if you work with it for a bit. Its easy to use once you have the basics of mastering down and know wat to listen for..

^^^^Was thinking the same thing. I mixdown my own stuff but I send it out for mastering to give it that finishing touch. If you can't notice a big difference between your original and the mastered copy then you've done a good job with your mixdown. Mastersound in Va. offers a three day course on Engineering & Mastering that I'm planning on taking. If I can learn to Master my Projects properly then I won't have to out source.

Can anyone elaborate on this "T-Rack" software? Is it MAC compatible? Thanks for any help.
