24 programs limitation

What are you doing? Movie orchestral scores?

The worst case practice is using a single sample from a program. Then they hit 24 program limit. To load 24 programs for a single tune is quite extreme.

That gives me another idea related to the other thread about SEQ editing. How about a Project Cleaner? Something that goes through the project and creates the minimum number of new programs based on the sequence usage? Hit 24 programs, send it through the cleaner, it creates one or two new programs and fixes the SEQ file to use the new programs.

That's a great idea! Sort of like a purge button that purges all samples not used in any sequences, then re-assings pads? That would be sick.

a cleaner would be incredibly useful.

and haha no i'm not doing movie scores, yet. i do songs, not beats, with a ton of switchups and tempo changes. i chop each one of my samples note by note, so i often end up with 16+ files per 1 phrase sample

plus i use at least 4 variants of the same snare per snare...and i might end up using 4+ different snares per song, so that adds up. not to mention hats, percussion...i end up with 30+ tracks and hundreds of samples.

I'm a old school drum machine guy myself. I rarely use more than 2 programs.

4k already has the purge function. To get a better grip on programs try downloading MPC Tutors Beat Making on the MPC 2000XL to the right of the screen. It gives alot of tips and techiques. K.I.S.S does wonders for your music. Music =emotion Logic=trouble

Find a better way. I've been doing live sets for many, many years with a LOT less.

mpc3000, by reading your post, you seem to have a lot of knowledge and good ideas, pity you talk about it but hardly share the actual info

anyway, 24 programs is enough. for livesets i would not recommend multisamples. and also reuse of programms is not difficult (you don't need all new samples for each tracks)
