Creative Block

Sup, everybody. Well right now I have a creative block I havent made a beat in a couple of days, but just a couple of days ago I made a $h!t load of tracks. Usually when I do something like that it takes me some time before I can even try and make another beat. I just get frustrated because I feel anything I make afterwards sounds similar to the stuff before it. Does anybody have any tricks or tips on what they do when they get these "blocks"

I get these sometimes. Well , maybe not the same as you.
If my MPC is turned on , I'm making a beat plain and simple.
But , sometimes I just look at it , without having turned it on and I feel like I might not be able to do anything today. I mean anything really exciting. Like I'm not motivated. In those cases , I just drive through the city until I find a large mas of people and then I get out , talk with people , find a rhyme cipher , listen to what the hungry motherfukkas have to say and that inspires me. You know how you used to feel BEFORE you had the MPC? Like , "If I had that , I'd use that everyday!"
You be surprised but being around folks who aint got shlt kinda makes you realize what you got and might spark a fire under your belly.
I also listen to early 90s shlt. Not so much for ideas but to put me in a certain state of mind. Go throw on "Illmatic" or watch "Style Wars" or "Wild Style" , you'll be ok.

do stuff like open up your mpc with loads of your old progs and sequences and start using different programs over different sequences...can get some cool unexpected results.....i also do this with synths and stuff-

You'll be alright dude. I think that every beat maker/producer/musician/etc. goes through these temporary blocks. Different peeps just got different ways of getting through them. Here's my method...When I get them blocks, I just lay back in the scientist seat and light a scented candle or incense (prefferably "NAG CHAMPA") and throw on some old cuts (personally, I throw on the "old" cuts such as "Oldies But Goodies" or "The Carpenters the Singles 69'-73') and just sit back and think about different things. Reminise with the music and just stare at the smoke or flame from the candle and take in the scent. For me, this is somewhat of a cleansing LOL...then Im like "Lets Do This!" and the MPC is just sitting right in front of me, buttons and pads staring right at me, and her disk drive is just waiting for me to impregnate LOL...peace

maybe a bit off-topic: I just found out that i'm more creative when i dont have the time to make beats.. now, in the christmas holidays I'm not capable to do anything!! but when i have school, I can't stay away from making beats... kinda wierd...

I've noticed one thing that does motivate me, its having someone else in the room while Im messing with the mp. Even if they arent even into hiphop I kinda go into show off mode with it and end up with a hot track. I guess everybody has got their ways to get back into the groove of things

hell yeah man i'm feelin' that - some nites i get home from work an just look at my MPC for 2 minutes and decide whether or not i've got the energy and creativity to even turn it on. Cause once you've pressed the power button, thats it, theres no going back. You are trapped.

i hate to break it to yall, having a lot of different gear around breaks me out of my slump. Im being serious, i got sick of my 3000, i plug in my 60/s950, i get sick of the 60, i head to the mac and **** with some Reason shit, now my boy is here and i get to play with the Triton and 4000, it pays to have options. variety is the spice of life!
