I can record into my mpc using reason..basically using midi to trigger redrum and it records back into my mpc. But what I really want to have happen is for my mpc to trigger redrum and it record into my REASON sequencer. However when I hit record (on reason) nothing happens, and also the little green bar that lights up in reason when midi is activating a channel doesnt appear when using my mpc as a controller..hmm help would be GREATLY appreciated.

thanks in advance!

if you look in the reason manual, it does say that if you use the external control inputs (ie Bus A-D) the reason sequencer won't record any notes into its sequencer. however if you plug your midi out on the mpc into the midi in on your controller keyboard (assuming you have Reason 3.0), you can then play whichever reason instrument is currently in focus.

if you have an earlier version of reason, just check the manual for how to connect the mpc.

the only problem with this i think is that you can only record one track at a time, but i may be wrong with that. this is where you step in sparq. :D

u can conect da mpc as da sequencer and reason as just a module
u need to get a midi interface from da mpc to ur comp
after dat each bus in reason is like a midi cord input (basically)
so if u think of it as midi it has 16 channels. so u can trigger up to 16 different sounds from 1 mpc out into reason bus a, orb, or c, or d.

hope i could help

by the way i have reason 2.5 and it works fine

that's not what he wants to do. he wants to use the mpc to control and record into reason. he wants to use the pads to control the drum module in reason.

treason, when i get home, i'll work that out for you and post it up.

for your type of situation you will not hear reason through the headphones on the mpc. the reason (no pun intended) you can't is because reason is not sending audio to the mpc, it's sending midi notes. reason's sound is going to come from your computer output and i take it your outputs are going to your monitors. so my question to you is, is your mpc going to your monitors too?

you can not receive sounds through midi from reason to the mpc midi in or out. now if you trigger the sounds from reason ,pending you have cables going into the mpc record in. yeah, but not midi.sparq I think that's what he's trying to do. Treason, check this out you can't midi sounds to and from, midi is a code for communication between instruments, recorders, camcorders, etc, it's only for note, triggering sounds, pressure, pitch bend, volume, velocity or touch key on or off data. Midi stands for Musical Instrument digital Interface. I have mine hook up to the mpc (1k) out from mpc to the PC>reason as a sound module ,triggering whatever redrum, comb, etc. But I can play reason modules from my MPC or Korg triton Extreme. Again you cannot play sounds into the mpc unless your recording it as a sample. remember you can trigger the sounds from the mpc, know instrument excepts sounds through midi, only in audio cables, and that's if your tweaking sounds useing effects or sampling only.
hope that helps . 8) 8) 8)

DJ, treason and trend have two separate issues. what treason wants to do is clearly stated in his original question. he already knows how to use reason as a sound module for the mpc therefore he knows how to trigger sounds from reason with the mpc. what he wants to do is trigger reason using the mpc as a controller to be recorded in reason. D, i don't know if you have reason but instead of using the mouse or a midi keyboard to program his drums (in reason), he wants to use the mpc to program his drums (again within reason) sort of like a person would do if they had the mpd16 or trigger fingers. this is the information i am gathering for him.

now trend's problem is he also has everything running right to use reason as a sound module to record reason's sounds in the mpc but he thought by having the headphones connected directly to his mpc, he thought he would be able to hear reason's sounds through the headphones, that's why i mentioned that he would not be able to due to what's coming into the mpc from reason is not audio, it's midi notes. he said he could hear reason through his monitors (and that's where he should hear reason) my question to him is, is his mpc connected to the same monitors.

i appreciate everyones help...basically yeah i understand what midi is, its just a matter of being able to use my mpc as a controller to trigger sounds in reason that can then record to the reason sequencer, no different than my midi keyboard. Sparq understands EXACTLY what im saying and I cant wait for his answer! hahaha well thanks for anyone taking the time to try and offer suggestions!

This is what I had to do:

Go to preferences, add a device, but hears the trick:

Make the MPC a Generic "MIDI Keyboard Multichannel"

Find your input Channel

Then in the preference menu, highlight it and make it the "Master Keyboard"

Hope this helps. Works for me.

so then tell me, if reason doesn't send midi to the mpc, then what does it send?

Sparq thanks for your help. I followed the video ( i watch that thing twice a day). MY mpc goes to my sound card. That explains why i cant here reason on my head phones. So how will i get the notes into wav format to finished the beat. IF i record them the reasons sounds are not there

. Also sparq I'll be your way for christmas and New Years (basketball games @ Baruch College) I would love to see your setup holla back...
