Can't record my midi drums

Wssup y'all
I'm stumped on tryin' to get midi data from my mpc1k to my pro tools session. I created 2 sequences on my 1k and been trying to record midi into PT, but I can't seem to get it goin, my midi interface goes all whack on me, and i'm almost certain its the user and not the hardware. I have a midisport 8X8. Anyway, my setup is as follows:

Fantom Midi out to Midisport Midi IN 1
Fantom Midi In to Midisport Midi Out 1
MPC Midi In 1 to Midisport Midi Out 2
MPC Midi In 2 to Midisport Midi Out 3
MCP Midi Out 1 to Midisport Midi In 2
MPC Midi Out 2 to Midisport Midi In 3

I been readin' the manual and on mpc went into midi/sync and made sure midi waz set to active track receive channel 1, soft thru:as track, as for sync, I have 1 selected , and sync out as:A. As for notes, i'm not really sure what i'm at, but my 2 sequences are just two pads (12 & 16, a kick and snare) and correspond to midi notes 43 and 53. I have MIDI on in the main screen as Type, and in the MIDI section, I got 1A selected.

As for PT, I went into Midi Studio setup and created my MPC as an instrument and selected as Input, Midisport input 2 and output, Midisport output 2. For send and receive channels I have channels 1 selected for both. Midi beat clock and midi input devices are active and enabled.
Man i'm confused, I literally suck at midi and I can't figure this out, shoulda probably went boozin 2nite ...any help greatly 'preciated.

your trying to track your sequence into protools.and that's ok jus make sure protools is your master,and mpc is slave then hit record on your protools and you should record your tracks in at one time or one at a time.

now if your trying to send midi data to protools,tha only way to do that would be to save a midi program then open the mpc drive or CF card and copy that in or open in protools , seeing that your mpc usb is hooked up to the PC.

So what you're saying is that there is no way to record midi data from my mpc into PT even if midi beat clock is synced? I thought it was possible to do that...maybe that explains it....so if I want to get midi data from my mpc into PT I have to save the midi file and then import it into protools right>?

saying that would be the easy, yes you can send midi data to protools,but it's alot easyier to create one , save it SMF or midi file ,then open it up with protools, that way you already have your sequence in the order you want it . like bass on track 1, kick on 2,snare on 3,etc. you might have to find the instruments that fit with the midi file ,but hey that's industry standard. I can email you a midi file fast you can do whatever! hope that opens up a better understanding to what your trying to do.

still there might be somethings that I miss this is a place you can learn about anything,don't jus stop here or there. Sometimes you have to ask
over and over until the theory becomes apart of you,then you can pass this info to the next. give me till to morrow I'll send you a midi file then you
can play with it in Protools using your own instruments by way of the MPC.

Thanks a lot yo...I saved the midi file and brought it into pro tools...I just cant monitor/hear anything...i'm tyring to find out what's going wrong with my ins and outs as mentioned in the post though

try using external modules ,with different sounds on each tracks. make sure your audio cables,protools is receiving sounds in and out. I don't know how you have your audio running in Protools

im having the same kind of problem. pt wont see any of my midi data. when i have the mpc midi out connected to my midi in (micro lite usb to 002rack) it just goes crazy. one giant endless peak. there has got to be a way to do this. what if i want to use pt sequencer and not the mpc, but use the mpc sounds. i know im missing something.

Yo halfguard, I know what u saying, my midi interface goes crzy on me its nutz...i've got to be doin soemthing wrong, cause I cant seem to get PT to recognize midi data no matter what channels i'm usin...

saint, ive got a fantom also, and it works flawless. im not sure whats going on. if i disconnect the midi out on the mpc, it will stop.

Props to DJ-T for helpin' me with the midi situation. Even though I could not seem to be able to record my sequences directly into PT, I went ahead with your suggestions, saved my sequences as midi file and then imported them in...and voila! was all there...changed some velocity settings and soloed the track to audio...thanx 'gain for dat
Yo halfguard, i'm curious about your gear setup 'cause it seems we got some similar items in our personal studio...still cant figure out why my interface goes all whack on me but the midi route DJ-T described to me works well and its fast...if ya find any loopholes around it let me know! gonna try out tha fantom now...

I'm just curious if the majority of mpc users use the approach to getting midi data into their sequencer software this way, (saving as midi file in mpc and import file from sequencer) and if this is the most generally accpeted method, seems to work well...any comments 'preciated

i dont do that at all. ive been sequencing in pt for about 1 1/2 year. ive never had a problem. what ive been doing with the 1000 (i just got it last week) is setting iup and aux track and a midi track in pt. all i need is the midi in of the mpc connected to the midi out of pt. i do my drums in the mpc. next, i make a bunch of audio tracks (kick,snares,hats,etc....)and just solo and bus the sounds to different audio tracks. i press record in pt, and it works fine. pt just doesnt see any midi data, but it still gets the audio. id like to be able to record the midi in pt sometimes as well, but im still trying to figure it out. as for my gear ive got a

002 rack(pt 7.0)/fantom s/mpc 1000/reason/imposcar/reaktor/micro q/emu xl1 lead/motu micro lite/edirol pcr 80/.......on pc............
