First off, sorry if you get these threads every other week but i'm pretty new here!

I've been using Reason on it's own for a minute but it's not really for me as i like to physically feel the music! So i'm looking to buy an MPC1000 and step up my sampling game, using reason as a sound module for synths etc. Think i'm going to hang on for a minute til the MPC1000 BK drops, unless the price hike is going to be rediculous?

So any pointers for starting to dig? I live in Coventry, UK. It's a relatively small city with very few specialist record shops that i know of so there doesn't seem to be that much opportunity for me to dig out some classics or even unkonwns. I've thought about going down the ebay route but dont want to buy a load of useless records.

Help would be much appreciated!

the only way that would happen is if you buy by bulk, and i dont recommend that as a beginner, just study this forum and theres plenty of usefull threads on records you can look for , first , figure out what type of music you want or like and you can find info in here too, theres a lot of info in here just through it and a lot of question can be asnwer'd,
not tryin to sound like an ass hole but theres a few beginners in here that ask'd the same questions.

but welcome, and have fun, and you better start to clear space where ever you live bcuz you will get addicted .

The best thing to do is to dig for the records you like...not the one someone else likes. From there, once you find what you like, you look at producers names, labels etc...and do some research... then you start to see the same people's names on a bunch of different stuff and it all comes together. I don't get into rare shit just to have it... if I don't like it...I don't get it.

I get you mate, it's cool. I know FAQs get real annoying from newbies! Don't nobody flame me but i hate the search engine on this site, can't search just in titles!

To be honest i'm kinda hoping that there might be someone in my local area that could give me the names/locations of a few good record shops.

In the mean time i'm gonna have a root through my dad's old 12" from the 80s. He listened to synth-pop sort of stuff like Depeche Mode so i don't know what i'll find but then that's the fun of it all i guess!

I was listening to Mobb Deep - Got It Twisted a few months back and my dad actually has the Thomas Dolby original on 12" so you never know.

all the music of today thats on the radio is all coming from music from the 80's so if your pop has that type of music most likely you'll find alot of stuff that is sampled from that.

my son ask's me when he hears music on movies if i got that or if i can buy it for him , i just tell him i have it i'll record it for you, caught him diggin in my crates the other day and he's only 4 yrs old,

someone on here i'm sure is from that area your from so be patient just try to study up on some of your pops music that the best thing ,

what type of music you listen to ? i take it hiphop.

I listen to pretty much everything but will mostly be focusing on hip hop and breaks. Also into house music and have found a few samples that could be useful!

I'll have a word with my dad and get all his old records out but i'l leave it til another day, he just crashed his car into a badger so he aint too pleased, lol

Ha, he said it was a big mofo, about 12" off the ground and probably about 8 stone in weight!

To top it all off, he gets into work after a week's holiday and they changed the rotar so he gotta work christmas day...

He's cool though, just a bit pissed off.

I'm gonna start raiding his collection when he gets in. Just found out that Just Blaze used a supertramp sample on Breathe (yeah i know i'm late) so i reckon i can find a few gems up there.

In the meantime i'm having a go at remaking Dipset Anthem in reason but it would be so much nicer if i had pads to play on.

DFENS where abouts in London you from?
