Got a Problem recording

Turned on my MPC the other day and loaded up my 808 kit. When i pressed record and play, the BPM value changed to EXT and i couldnt record anything!!!! can anyone help. By the way if this is something stupid that I have missed then I apologise in advance so please dont bite my head off!

that only happens when you have it slaved to another midi device. (ie i only see that when i'm tracking into my DAW.

did that only happen with that kit? do you have it sync'd with something else?

Nah, I tried it with a few other kits and the same happened. Ive got the midi cables plugged into my Midisport 2x2 but i dont have it synced to anything. Well I know that i dont have any other programs open (Ableton, Reason) when this happens. Is there anything else that could be causing this? Perhaps I should try unplug the midi cables see if that makes any difference.

you can try that but the only reason that i am aware of that makes the tempo read EXT is because the mpc is receiving midi time messages from somewhere else.

yes unless something is sending your mpc time info it will not go to ext so mabye try to disconnect all midi first and see if it does the same thing and then if not plug ur midi back up and make sure any program u have open or any other equip is not set to slave the mpc that the only thing i can think of
