hey guys,

my friend let me borrow his Roland JV-2080 for a few days and i'm having some trouble gettin it to work with my MPC. i have it set up with my MIDI keyboard and everything, and I can record a track on the MPC with a sound from the module, and it plays back fine....but here's my question. How can I set it up so that I can have multiple tracks on the MPC, all controlling different patches from the module? And get it to play back all together.

For example...right now Track 3 on my MPC is set to MIDI, program is OFF, and it's a piano part(from the roland)...and I want to make Track 4 a string part. But only the patch currently selected on the module is playing...so both my string part and my piano part are being played on whatever instrument is selected on the Roland.

I experimented setting each track on the MPC to a different MIDI channel, but I cant figure out how to assign different patches on the Roland to specific channels (i dont have the manual).

Am I on the right track? I'm assuming it's possible to do this....otherwise it seems you'd need a separate sound module for each track on a song!! Thanks a lot for your help,

-Dan

you're definitely on the right track, but you need to know how to setup the roland so that its different voices (assuming it is multi-timbral) play midi notes recieved on different channels.
