I call bullsh*t on making a natural sounding drum roll with a snare on the mpc1k...

velocity...hahahhaa riighhhhht...!!!..

prove me wrong...a natural sounding one using the same snare. Please do...then spit in my face...please.

I beg of you.

i'm not gonna up a wav of it because i'm too lazy, and spitting is rude. i'll explain it instead.

first of all, if you're using the same snare, you'd better make this a ghost roll or else don't do it at all

second, do in deep step edit and program in your roll. no more than 4 notes.
third, experiment pitch. start with your snares pitched a few hundredths down and work up to 0.00

next, make sure your attacks are varied. experiment with this, because it depends how fast your roll is as to whether or not you need attack in the first hits or the last. i like to put heavy attack on the first, softer on the next, and so on until the last hit is solid w/ no attack

but i think the lesson here is this: VARY YOUR SNARES, use MULTIPLE RECORDINGS OF THE SAME DRUM if you want to get that sound.

I shall try this...thank you for the knowledge...I will try...maybe i'm getting frustrated.

oops! upped a wav anyway

http://excommence.com/Sample06.WAV

this is very hastily put together and is a poorly programmed drum loop but demonstrates the roll with the same snare. i put the snare on 3 diffferent pads and set their attacks different there, also their pitch and velocity

imagine these lower volume and ghosted, you'd be happy.
the settings are as follows in case you want to give it a try:

setting for 1st snare: level: 21. tune: -.75. attack: 14
setting for 2st snare: level: 28. tune: -.4. attack: 7
setting for 3st snare: level: 44. tune: .0. attack: 4

good luck, and don't get frustrated. more importantly, only roll the same snare file when you absolutely have to - just how you should only like using 16 levels to get a lead melody when you have no other option... keep these things LOW VOLUME and cover your tracks....

peace
nym

edit: these drums are from my "strokesdrum" kit if you'd like to try it yourself. i used "strokesdrums 012" for this example.

yeah, but its such a pain to do this on the 1k, when other mp's its almost automatic.
